Hey Guys,
We've talked for months about using IFOEDIT and other software to allow us, in my case to have a collection of DVD Pop Videos, Others have talked about building a collection of Film Trailers etc... Just throw whatever VOBS you have on a dvd. Nothing else, and they will actually play one after the other......just like MP3's do. ! No IfO's needed nothing !! Okay no menu but so what.

Have you tried this on a DVD standalone or just on a computer? On a standalone you will need a VIDEO_TS folder. Another point, since DVD2One automaticallys creates IFO's BUP's, etc when doing movie only mode (no menu or extras), why would it go to teh bother of making VTS and IFO files if they werent needed? DVD Shrink is the same!

Phil , I doubt very much (as Oriphus stated) that you've played that disc on a stand alone DVD Player...have you ?

Hmmm... I know it's late and i was loathed to waste a DVD-R just to try (after all the stuff i've heard about the importance of the VIDEO_TS folder) but i just happened to have a Philips DVD+RW lying around.
So I quickly banged a few small VOBs from 'Annie Hall' on it, and the result is ...
IT DOESN'T PLAY ON MY STANDALONE TOSHIBA DVD PLAYER (SD-220E)!
Anyone fancy risking a coaster using a DVD-R or DVD+R?

If it was that easy to do , I dont think this forum would exsist ;-)
Although most of the differing processes are easy once you know them (inside out)

Also,
I don't believe we've debatedthis topic for months, as it is not a particularly difficult thing to do.
Rather, I have seen various Newbies pose the question and get clear answers from helpful forum members that were tailored to their specific needs (ie, based particularly on the type of files they were starting with and the tools they had at their disposal).
No one solution like "bang the files onto a DVD-R and burn away" will work for all users as some start with MPEG1 files, some start with various VOBs, some start with DivX files, etc.

GUYS GUYS GUYS.
Absolutely genuine. I've put a number of pop vobs onto a dvd, in no folder and it plays just fine.
NO VIDEO_TS folder, nothing. In fact not only does it play VOB files it plays mpg extensions as well. So does my mates. !! honestly no kidding whatsoever.
My dvd is a crappy £59 Digital i standalone bought from Bowlers in Mcr.
Just going to go downstairs and try it on my Sony DVD standalone, although it's an older one and it wont play mp3's either.

Can't get to use the sony, too much hassle as currently disconnected. But will try later.
I've just put 4 more DVD's with either mpg extension or VOB extension, (essentially just a load of files) and they all play perfectly one after the other, you can skip through them, one after the other etc just like you would do with mp3's. They're also listed like mp3's would be too.
So no weed, never done it, still sober, but not for long !! friday night approaching fast.
Sorry, if some of you, waste the odd 90p dvd but for those that it works for still got to say good find isn't it ?

MPEG1 will NOT play straight from PC data to disc to stand alone (without some sort of encoding)

Hi
I think all he has done is burn a data disk with video files on.
Some standalones are capable of playing these videos files like a PC does.Even on CD-R too. This is because some of the cheap ones are just DVD-Roms inside with a decoder card. I read this on another forum after some guy took the cover off his standalone.

Players that play DVD Video (VR) will do it i think - but generally most will not.

If you do it this way then there will be no chapter jumping/subtitle choice/audio choice and probably no time displayed etc....
So if you have a player that will do it great - but you should lose the ability to have the above options.....
Basically dvd outperforms vcr's because of the quality and also the ability to change viewing and audio requirements....
...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

since wen did dvd players which could read 'DATA video disks' exist??
eg. burn video files>>cdr
burn video files>>dvd
this is new to me, i thought they'd never release anything like this, and that mp3 capable was the last straw. and i'm talking about files such as .AVI guyz

They have existed a while. The Pacific 1002 can read video files burnt on CDR as data disks. It gives u a list of folders and files on the disk.
Some new DVD players even play AVI (divx and xvid)

If its marked DVD Video (VR) it should play it, but dont try burning like that as its not ideal. Go back to the VIDEO_TS folder and VTS, IFO, VOB< BUP, etc.... files

I am not advising doing it this way. I am just saying it is possible.
You can just burn files onto data disks e.g video.mpg and they will play on CDR or DVD.
This will only work on a few players and like I say I am not promoting this use.

how can you say you can can get more data on one dvd disc using data i have a disc that as 4 flims on it i.e grease,coyote ugly,never been kissed.and ghost. all on one disc size 4.3gb

i agree wif edsriper, thats the reason why i wanted to burn using data. AVI naturally is compressed in compared to mpeg dvd etc. the quality is reasonable, so why not wen u can fit all this on 1 disk??
