the only thing that comes to mind are these two things:
1. you have to set the main connection up on your PC for connection sharing http://www.teammodders.com/forum/interne...nsole-t714.html

2. you do not have all of the security information from your router entered correctly on your laptop.

#2 happened to me, and it would show a signal, then none, then a signal agin. Once the security info was fixed and correct it stopped cutting out on me.

im pretty sure i have all the security settings right because i would go a full day with no problems then a couple of days with in and out service...to clarify my desktop doesnt lose any connection...its only my laptop that does from time to time...do i have to set my laptop for sharing as well or just my desktop or both? it works everywhere else but my apartment :(

you would only have to set it up on the PC as that is the system sharing a connection.
Checking for newer firmware versions for your router is a good option as well.

I have a linksys router myself and it works great with all my wireless devices. If the laptop workd fine everywhere else then you can rule out the card in the laptop for sure.

So possible the router itself or just the distance you are from it. How is the signal strength when you are connected?

not really unless you want to transfer files, which is a nice feature but most people don't need it. And no i do not think it would help much with the connection cutting in and out.
