Hi all,
Any advice or thoughts welcome, before I launch this drive into next week! ;)
Having replaced an old but working DVD-ROM drive recently, then stuffed a MSI drive firmware upgrade, I installed a Liteon XJ-HD165H.
This works fine, except that it will not read ANY DVD-R disks. I've tried 3 different makes, all written on my Pioneer 106, and one other make written on another drive. Normally the drive light flashes but it gets nothing (in fact it normally slaps the hell out of Explorer and I have to reboot or wait 10 minutes for Windows to recover). Occasionally it has let me view the contents, and then failed.
All of these disks are read perfectly in my Pioneer 106.
The Liteon reads retail dvds and CD-Rs with no problem.
So far I've tried:
Updating firmware to CH12 (latest)
Used rpcde2.exe to remove/restore RPC-2 coding
double-checked cables are tight
Booting into 'clean 98' to check for conflicting software
Updated to latest AMD driver pack
Things I haven't tried yet:
Swapping the drive onto Slave
Trying it in another machine
If anyone has any thoughts I'd welcome them. I can't believe that this drive wouldn't be DVD-R compatible? Is it possibly a duff drive, in which case why does it read commercial dvds and CDRs with no problem?
TIA
Gavin
