DVDRW Drive Won't Recognize Blank CD-R

I have tried several programs including Nero, ExpressBurn, and WMP11 to try to burn my DRM un-protected audio tracks (I used to be able to using the same blanks I am using now) but cannot get the drive to recognize my blank CD-R. I can watch and burn DVDs and playback audio cds. I have searched the forums, cleaned my registry, uninstalled Nero, re-installed Nero, used the Nero Cleaning Tool, re-installed Nero. Still doesn't work. My PC doesn't show the pop-up when I enter a blank CD-R and the properties of the drive say 0 used, 0 free. I have been trying to fix it for almost a week, but no luck. I know a lot of people are having similar problems. Please Help!!

Would you know if you have an ASPI driver installed?
Try posting the NeroHistory log after you remove the serial numbers. Edit out all but the last couple of burns. If you don't have one, you might run Nero InfoTools and see what it says about the System and Nero ASPIs.

i just did a system restore ( with backup), i am an amature, but i know what i am doing. still won't work,plus all my shit is in one folder now instead of the desktop. i have Nero completely uninstalled and i am trying to use the windows burn technique (drag and drop, then right click on the drive and select 'write to cd'. still nothing works and i have a useless system restore. please help.

Please edit your posts and remove the second and third edition. You can't delete them, but you can remove the information within.
You may want to wait for someone else to make a comment on this, but the other day someone had to install an aspi driver to get their CD to work. I see you don't have any installed, so it may help.

Ok, i just got off chat with gateway support and he deleted my lower and upper filters and changed my IMAPI start up settings from manual to automatic. still doesn't work. he told me to try the following steps:
Loading default values and testing with boot to CD-ROM.
Place the Restore CD into the CD-ROM drive and turn your system off.
Let it sit for ten seconds then turn the system back on.
Do not exit the BIOS until you have checked the Boot sequence.

I recommend reloading the drivers for the CD-ROM Drive. Reboot the system and Start tapping the F8 key along the top of the keyboard as the system reboots. It will appear to be booting up normally then will give you a menu of boot options.

I hope that helps, but my link was concerning adding ASPI drivers. I believe someone the other day had a problem similar to yours and added the Aspi and his started to work. Just a suggestion, someone may advise against it, but if you can't get it to work, you might download and install the Nero ASPI (WinASPI) drivers.
What I wanted you to remove are the second and third instance of your InfoTools post, just to condense things some..

ASPI Drivers installed for System and Nero. Still no change. Cannot perform above instructions. Can't get past the first couple steps. I have searched microsoft help pages and been online with gateway several times, editing my registy, etc. still can not recognize cd-r in my drive (blank), changed cdrom drive in registry from value 01 to value 02. still no luck. just installed roxio creator 9, no luck. Help, help, help!!
