Depends on what you plan on doing with your DVD burner... I personally would replace the CD-burner with the DVD burner. That way, if you plan on backing up a lot of DVD movies, you can rip with the DVD-ROM drive and burn with the DVD-writer.

I did what FunkyBoss stated ages ago cos I wanted to do exactly that.
It's possible to do copies of you back up on-the-fly too , aslong as both DVD drives are on seperate IDE cables.
Your DVD Burner should be able to burn CD-RW aswell...?

; )

Yep, I've actually backed up both CDs and DVDs on the fly with both of my drives on the same IDE channel/cable.

It's not advised to burn on-the-fly with both drives on the same IDE cable though...

I got rid of the DVD ROM because my DVD Writer can rip at around 7x with firmware upgrade and i like my 52x CD Writer

If you plan on doing a lot of DVD backing up then keep the DVD-ROM. I'd rather put the wear on a $50 ROM than a $300 burner.

If you plan on doing a lot of CD's, and speed is an issue, then keep the CD-RW. Keep in mind that the difference between burning a CD at 16X or at 48X is only a few minutes. Now that I'm used to DVD burn times 6 minutes for a CD seems like nothing.

I would concur with that 100%

And that is why I do without my CD-RW x48 (for now)
