I have been usingCyberlink DVD solutions to burn DVD.Recently after reinstalling Windows XP i have been unable to burn any.After the encoding and just before the writing starts the DVD dics is ejected
and i receive a message Authoring engine failed

after you reinstalled windows did you reinstall the burn drivers for your burning program? i think they are called puffon or something like that

it's pcouffin and you can download ConvertXToDVD and it will install this into your computer. this may or may not correct your problem... try it out first. the free version of ConvertXtoDVD leaves a watermark logo on your final product but goes away if you buy it. You don't have to buy it..... just install to get the pcouffin into your computer and then try using your program again for burning! hope this helps.
