If all you have is a DS Lite, then you can't do a thing using Wifi.

If you get a Wifi game (eg Mario Kart) you can play against people over the internet.

If you get the Nintendo DS Browser (aka Opera) you can browse the internet.

If you get a homebrew device you can check your emails, get weather forcasts, and use IRC/MSN/AIM.

A homebrew device is a hardware cartridge which allows you to run home-made programs & games on the DS (as well as RMs). There is a large selection available (M3/Supercard/EZ-Flash...)

I believe there is a guide on these forums which will give you more information, I will update this post when I find it.

BEUP (Link at left of the page)

The No-FAT version should work on the R4DS

Yes, in the download will be several versions.
The no-fat version does not access any external files in the storage area and should therefore work on everything.

It is likly the Chism version patched with DLDI could also work, but it's too much effort compared to just copying the no-fat version across.
