hello, i'm pretty new to this site, i have a Panasonic Matshita DVD-Ram Drive LF-D310...i just want to know if this is a good drive...and where should i, if i NEED to, update my firmware

If you have one, keep it. If you plan to buy a new burner, buy a more modern multi-burner that supports DVD-RAM (i.e. 4G drive) and the more mainstream CDR/RW, DVD+/-R/RW.

I think the Ricoh have a line with their MP5240 or the Panasonic LF-D521, altho I have only seen ads for these at Akihabara (the Tokyo electronics district) and have no personal experience on how "good" they may be.
