.avi files burned onto a DVD-R?

ive got the program DVDiT! that came with my computer but when i use it it says it can only use MPEG1 and MPEG2 files, i have a .avi file, but how can i burn it so that it is watchable on the DVD player hooked to my TV?

you could convert it to mpeg or mpeg2 using dvd2svcd. Just set it to avi mode.

you could also convert it with TMPGEnc.
