gateway m675 error message

Gateway m675 error message says 02fa: cpu fan error. Please turn off system and check your fan. Fan constantly runs as soon as the battery is put into the machine. Any suggestions other than sending to Gateway. I've removed the fan and cleaned it, but it still does the same thing.

is this a desktop or a laptop because of battery?
