DVR-A03 won't read CDs, just DVDSs?

Got a weird problem with my DVR-A03 under Windows XP. It reads and plays DVD discs fine (haven't tried to burn one in a while, but it worked last time I checked.) But when I put a CD or CD-R disc in the drive, it just sits there spinning and blinking its lights, not recognizing it.
Anyone ever seen this? I tried flashing from the 1.90 to the 2.00 firmware, no help. Do I have a dead laser or something?

Have you tried opening the contents of the disc in the drive via 'my computer'?

Yep. It'll show the disc contents fine if it's a DVD. If it's a CD, I just get a "Please insert a disc in drive M:" message.

Thanks. Was curious as to whether anyone else had ever heard of such a weird error. The drive's 18 months old, so it's out of warranty now. I tried sending a "help!" message via Pioneer's web support page and the darn thing kicked back with a web scripting error, losing my entire message when I tried to hit "Back." Arrgh.

Well, just to add some closure to this thread...
I called Pioneer. The tech thought that the circuitry that handles the CD portion must be kaputt. It's out of warranty, and he said they charge $40 to look at a drive, plus return shipping. And if the repair is major enough to get costly, they just won't fix it. So it might be $60 for them to say "yeah, it's a doorstop," and even if they could fix it, it could easily run up into nearly the cost (or more than) a DVR-105 from NewEgg anyway.
I have a CD-RW drive in that PC anyway, so I guess I'll leave it for now as long as it continues to burn and play DVDs without problems.
Annoying that a drive I paid nearly $400 for last year is now considered "disposable" by Pioneer, though.

Maybe, but the Pioneer 105 is much cheaper now if you shop around. I have not had a single problem with mine.
