i have an external memorex dvd+/-r/rw burner, and for some reason it'll only burn the blank memorex DVD+R. I've always used verbatims -r, and those won't even work with it. i use CloneDVD and it'll say it's writing for about minute with no bars going, then it'll give me the error for bad media.

this isn't the only burner that started doin this. i hooked an internal burner into another computer i had and it did the same thing. it was an nec burner.

has anybody had these problems as far as the burners only burning one type of media?

Hi beatz.
I may be missing something, but you went to Pioneer site for your driver.
Memorex has its own site and it is external drive so it really need right software to see it.

Why do not you send an E-Mail to Memorex help and ask about your problem. They are the best to help.
Also check specs for your drive.
For firmware update, it is usually .exe prog and will install on its own. Usually there are instructions on installation on its web site.

sounds like you have the wrong firmware you need the model number of the drive to get the proper firmeware

what model memorex dvdrw drive do you have? memorex drives are rebadges of other manufacturers drives. I have helped several members with memorex drives having the same problem you are having. give me the model # and I'll try to find some patched firmware from the actual drive manufacturer. once it's flashed with oem f/w it will register as that make and model drive eg. lite-on SOHW-1673. it will also be compatable with a lot more media.

beatz2005,

I meant the model number like memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWID2 for example which is an oem lite-on SOHW-1673S. another example is memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 which is an oem lite-on SOHW-1633S.

before you crossflash it, have you tried flashing it with the latest memorex f/w which is JWS6? http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2082 try that 1st if you haven't already. regardless it will perform better with patched lite-on f/w but it will also void any warranty and there is a very slight risk involved when crossflashing. I'll be back with patched litey f/w.

here's a link to some patched f/w http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html it will actually be a lite-on SOHW-1693S rather than a SOHW-1673S (which is even better due to later model and compatable with more media) after the flash if you choose to do so. here are the patched f/w's that will work on your drive. look under dvdrw drives (half height/desktop) then under lite-on SOHW-1673S on the page I gave you the link to.

KS0B - patched - crossflashing (for 1673S, etc.)
? KS0B - patched - crossflashing - fast burn FBD/FBDX (for 1673S, etc.)
? KC4B - patched - improved +/-R burn quality (for 1673S, 1693S, Sony 800A, etc.)

I would try the top KSOB 1st then you can try the others if you want. let me know how you make out :)

yea!! i loaded the firmware, i had to turn the .exe to .bin so i could use that other program on there to load the f/w. it didn't work wit the real cheap dvd's i had from almost 6 months ago, but it's still burning the +r's i've been using. will try with some verbatim -r's tomorrow. thanx man i appreciate that

how'd u figure all of that stuff out

teach and learn. I've been around here, and other forums, a good while and you're very welcome. I hope your new f/w (litey drive now actually) continues to serve you well.
