XviD file size is limited to 2gb. Correct?
Does DivX have a file size limit?
I looked in the glossary on this site, but it did not answer the two questions above.
Thanks for your knowledge. ;)

Um... Is it? As far as I'm aware there isn't a filesize limit for either XviD or DivX.

let me give you more data as to why I am thinking that XviD has a 2gb limit:
I use AVI.net, http://www.clonead.co.uk/, to code my movies into XviD. In the setup, the max I can go in file size(with this program) is 2gb, using XviD.
I am by no means a master at this, really, I am a novice. So if anyone can shed some light on this subject, that would be great.

XviD is just a video codec. You are talking about the size limits of AVI which is a container and ODML overcomes the limit anyway. You can have an AVI larger than 2GB's as long as it is ODML. Problem is that lots of SAP's don't like ODML avi's and will either not play them or stop @ 2GB's. So the limit in AVI.net would be for hardware compatibility sake.
DivX is either just a video codec (like XviD) or a container based/hacked on AVI. If it was based on ODML, then there is no limit. Otherwise you are looking at 2GB's again.

Thanks celtic_d
That does clear things up. One question (if you may know), will a stand-alone DivX player play a file over 2gb?
and I am not sure what "ODML" is, but I am looking it up as we speak.

Well sir, I can't find what "ODML" stands for. It is not in the glossary here, and all references I find on the net are questions about how to make them play correctly, but doesn't give a definition.

sorry to post so many time in a row, but I don't see a way to EDIT my post.
I found the answer to stand-alone DivX players. The DivX website said this:
"Creating files larger than 2GB may lead to playback problems on some DivX Certified devices."

Thought I already covered that anyway.

ODML = OpenDML.
You should be able to fit most movies at full resolution without needing to go over 2GB's anyway. Some longer stuff like Lawrence of Arabia or the LOTR extended versions comes in two parts anyway.
