DVD2AVI, DVD2AVI...
And what about AVI2DVD? What is the prefered way to convert AVI to DVD; is it possible to get .AC3 sound from AVI to add it to DVD after that?

Trurl,

I could wait for koola but I won't.

If you want to keep AC3 in your dvd, use virtual dub.

Open your AVI file in virtual dub before you convert it to dvd.

Click Save Wav As...... under the first column.

Instead of saving as .wav, go in the box and type .AC3 at the end of the file name.

The best mpeg2 encoder I am aware of is TMPGEnc.

It is a fairly lengthy process to make an mpeg2 file in TMPGEnc, sometimes 20 hours or more for a high quality film.

Ah, maybe I will let you deal with this one koola.

The AVI file probably won't already have AC3 audio, it is likely to be in MP3 format (use GSpot to check).

To convert the MP3 audio track to AC3 open the AVI file in VirtualDub and save the audio as a WAV file (uncompressed).

Changing the file extension to AC3 alone won't change the audio to AC3 format. Instead use BeSweet's AC3 Machine (freeware) to convert your new WAV file to AC3.

Progress with authoring and burning....

Good luck

Hi Herbsman

Didn't know that Nero Vision Express 2.0.0.22 could convert AVI to DVD. Do you need a plugin?

Hey Herbsman

I read somewhere that you use DVD Architect to convert AVI to VOB. I have just downloaded it and i dont have a clue how to work it.

The movie I'm starting with is Jungle Book 2. xvid codec (I think this is all new to me) roughly 700 mb.

I would quite like to do the conversion in under 10 hrs if possible

Thankx man

Any Ideas?

If you give me your e-mail ad in PM , I'll send you the guides (I say guides cos you may need Vegas 4.0 + DVD Architect to do AVI to VOB)
It'll need to be more than a hotmail account as the guides are about 8-10mb each !
I have only done MPEG to VOB in DVD Architect myself...
