Please help slave hard drive trouble

Yes I just installed a slave drive in my pc and it shows in bios and when I booted windows it installed it. So I go to device manager it is there but windows didn't apply a letter to it (example D:) what do I do next do I need to format it if so what is the easiest way?

If windows didnt assign a drive to it then it means that its not reading it. Because one of my drives wouldnt work. Try to install it (some hds come with a cd) if you dont have one then see if the hds compatible with your computer. if its an xbox hd then its not gonna read it.

there is no disk came with the drive but windows does see it if it go to device manager it is there and it says that device is working properly?

hmm i dunno if it says its working properly it should be working. what version of windows are you using?

hmm thats weird xp home should be compatible with it. maybe your computer doesnt accept a hd that big. like some computers accept only up to a certain size.

1.Boot into Windows XP.
2.Open Computer Management and select Disk Management.
3.Initialize the drive.
4.Partition the drive.
5.Format the drive.
6.Assign the drive letter.
7.Initiate changes.
