NEC 1100A doesn't read DVD+R media after firmware upgrade

Upgraded my NEC 1100A to the latest firwware 1.A1. Since then, the drive wouldn't read DVD+R/+RW discs anymore. It read DVD-Rom, DVD-R and CD-R discs okay. I flashed back to the original firmware 1.A0 and that didn't fix the problem.
Someone please help. Thanks~
