every time i load xmc there is no writing for things like settings and music just the background and boxes(music vid etc)

well by that description it is hard to tell, but there should be.
you can try deleteing your copy and downloading Franks XBMC Autoinstaller from ISOhunt. Burn that to a disc (i think DVD) and use it to install XBMC. That is what i used last time and mine works just fine.

DVD2Xbox can copy a disc to your hard drive.
Using FTP you can back them up to your PC to be burned on a blank DVD

correct, to copy games to your Xbox hard drive to either play of be FTP'ed to your PC.

read that guide and access #Xbins. they are usually one of the better places to find the most up to date copies of all the Xbox apps.
