Hi, I have read threads and tutorials but Im still lost. I am using Utorrent and getting really slow download speeds. I have a little green circle with a tick on the bottom of the screen, its using Port 31779 and Im on Windows XP SP2. I have Norton Internet security and itd det up to allow Utorrent. I have a netgear w108 mbs wireless router (I cant find the model number, it on Sky Broadband and they dont know) and an 8mb connection thats running at about 3 Mbps. I dont know if I need to do port forwarding, or how to do it with my set up. Any help would be appreciated. Im getting download speeds of abou 5kbs.

You will have to port forward. Your model number should be on a plaque or sticker somewhere; back or bottom? I must misunderstand, how can Sky not know what router they're handing out? Use Port Forward once you know, find your router and then your program and follow the instructions: http://portforward.com/english/routers/p...routerindex.htm A static address to forward to may help but pay attention to the section about the DNS servers: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Meanwhile, in utorrent at options>preferences>connection, disable UPnp (I think it is in the latest version) and at options>preferences>bittorrent, enable Protocol Encryption: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674 and you can try both DHT options if you're using a public site but not for private sites also at options>preferences>bittorrent. Lastly, shut off your Windows firewall if it's on and try connecting directly to the router if you can. Edit: try a Netgear DG834GT

Thanks for that. The Netgear router has no references on, just Sky sticker. And no Sky dont know what router they use. I spoke to 3 techies and none of them knew. The tips you have for adjusting in the options speeded up things quite well so thanks for that. I will have to find which router it is and do the port forwarding thing. Sky really are sueless.

Maybe an email. Phone calls may land who knows where, emails won't. That's idiotic support.
