I connected my ethernet cable that i have from my computer to my wireless modem, and it's lit up on both the computer and the modem just like my other computer that has it, but the internet doesn't work. What usually happens is i go to network connections with WIndows XP and i see Local Area Connection but i don't have that for some reason. What can I do to get that or what can i do to get the internet to work?

Check under device manager to make sure your LAN card is loaded correctly.
Right click on "My Computer"
Click on "Properties"
Click on the "Hardware" tab
Click on "Device Manager"

Make sure there is something installed under "Network adapters"

Yeah thats what i thought. Your LAN card isn't installed properly. So first you need to be able to identify your network card. Is this an additional card or built into the motherboard? Is your system a name brand and if so what is the name and model number?

Is this a desk top, A micro PC (Small), or a slim pc (Very skinny)

You should be able to find your driver here
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec...vOID=1098#11395

Or use the disk that came with the PC

It is probably the first or second one. I would try both windows will tell you if it isn't the right driver for that card or not.

You could try deleting the card from Device manager and then restart windows and see if it will automatically find and install it.
