I just got my rig together and I wanna overclock my CPU. I'm using an AMD 64 4600+ X2, which runs at 2.4 Ghz, specs at:

I have a limited understanding of overclocking and would appreciate some help.

I want to know how to check the stability and if possible overclock my CPU without going into my bios.

If there is already info here I'm sorry for askin, just redirect me.

Why don't you want to go into your BIOS? That's a bit like saying, "I want to drive my car fast, like those expert guys, but I'm scared to touch the steering wheel".

best place for you to go is here
http://www.ocforums.com/index.php?s=

unless your system is different then anyone else's, you have to go into the BIOS of the motherboard because that is where the front side bus settings are that you need to change.
There are a few programs out there that can monitor your system and check for errors, also keep track of the temperature. You should run one before you do anything and mark down the temp range (it will varry a bit and make sure the PC has been on for about an hour first so you get a goo feel for what the max temp range is normally)
Down load those 3 programs Coretemp , Tat , And orthos

Dont know the link for tat but im sure google does .

Coretemp is a nice temp monitor
Tat has temp monitoring and stress testing
and orthos is for stress testing . most ppl after they oc run Orthos for 24 hours on the small fft's , if it passes with out erros it is considered stable

edit : I was right google had it =) http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php
