Got something to do with the system.
With DVD Shrink, it took me only 12 mins to rip a DVD5 & 18 mins for a DVD9 excluding burning time.
My system:
MSI 945 Neo Platinum MB with
Intel P4D 925 CPU
2Gb DDR2 PC667 RAM Dual channel
MSI RX1950 Pro 256mb PCIe
Antec Trio 550W PSU
4 X SATA2 HDD - 250Gb x1, 320Gb x 2, 400Gb x 1
2 x DVDRW

It may well be your system, but if your DVD drive has riplock on it, as some do, your read rate is going to be slow...

@art800
Give us some more specifics about your drive and system and maybe we can help you pinpoint the problem....

Do you mean it takes an hour to only rip
or does it take that long to do the whole process in shrink

also have you checked that your transfer mode is in DMA

Takes over an hour Plus to RIP... I have two plextor burners..
PX-740a- updated firmware
PX-716 SA - updated Firmware.

Dell Dimension 4700
1054 RAM
P-4 processors 520
dual line ddr2 -1536 RAM
160 gb Maxtor HD- Serial ATA

Purchased 01/25/05

Replaced Original 80 gb HD about 6 months ago and th Ripping problem went away (over 1hour plus) back to Rip about 15 minutes & Burn About 15 minutes. Back to the usual total DVD copying process. However, Now I presently have that same SLOW RIP Process..

@art800

As suggested by 300bowler, have you check your DMA?

Also have much free space do you have on your hard drive? Have you defragged lately? Possibly a bad cable somewhere???

Just brainstorming some possibilities since you have not told us what you may have checked out already.

I don't own a Plextor, even though I hear they are excellent, but I remember someone saying that there are some Plextor Utilties that come with the drives of which one utility is something that allows you to rip faster..I believe it is called SPEEDREAD... Check Plextor website or google Plextor Speedread...
Maybe someone who owns a Plextor can chime it on that one...

just to add
are you just using shrink to rip on to hd? keep in mind shrink is old and can't support newer encryptions. but does still work well when used with other programs

thanks for all of everyones possible reasons...I just started using DVDClone instead of DVD Shrink. And DVD Clone works wonders. Very Fast to RIP & Write within 30 minutes or less.. I stick with Dvd Clone. No more DVD Shrink 4 ME... Thanks Again for everyone's replies....
