Hi i have been reading everyones problems with the Illegal Disc Error
and i have one too!!
Have been using Bulkpaq DVD-R 4x for ages with no problems at all, then i thought i would try a better disc, so i bought some Sony DVD-R 16x burner and low and behold i get a Illegal Disc Error surely these discs should be better than Bulkpaq, these cost me alot of money and my computer has rejected them. I have tried numerous things reading your replies like downloading just about everything i can get my hands on, but with to no avail. I have an Emachines 5260 computer which is nearly 3 years old. Have pasted my log below would really really appreciate some help please.
Thanks

Hello.

Some suggestions.

First edit your post to remove your Nero serial number beginning 1A.... It appears at the end of your red font.

You have Nero InCD software installed which can be a problem maker. If you don't use it for packet writing, it'd be better to uninstall it with the InCD Clean Tool.

http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/InCD_Clean_Tool.html

Upgrade your Nero to version 6.6.0.18, the most stable version for Nero 6. Be sure to run the Nero 6 Clean Tool after uninstalling your current version and before intalling version 6.6.0.18.

The Sony D1 16X media can be a tough one for older burners with older firmware to handle. I know a lot of people use the BGS4 firmware. I don't think it burns -R 16X media well at all. I think it's happy with +R 16X for the most part. I assume this is an OEM drive that came with your system. You may need to crossflash your burner to install Liteon retail firmware.

http://codeguys.rpc1.org/oc.html

If this is an OEM drive that came with your system, first go to your computer vendor's site and see if they have a firmware upgrade. If not consider the crossflash procedures I linked above. Or go back to using other media.

I don't think it'll make any difference, but you could try creating an image file with your authoring software and then try burning with ImgBurn, eliminating Nero from the burning loop.

I'm pretty sure it's your firmware causing the problem. This is a known issue with that particular firmware.

Firmware upgrades are free if available. If any EM updates are available, you should be able to find them here:

http://emachines.com/support/product_support.html

If you want to crossflash your burner to use the regular Liteon burner firmware, use this:

http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares/dvdrw...ed-cf-mcled.rar

It is possible given the age of your burner and the fact that this older burner is really no longer supported that the firmware upgrade may not solve the problem. I do not know if that particular Sony media was available when the last firmware update was programmed. You may end up having to experiment with other media to find some that works well with that burner. In any event, updating your firmware is the logical place to start.
