hi, i have bittorrent, am downloading something at 2kb and have downloaded it at 40 for a few seconds at some points, so it is possible, i have comcast (its comcastic!) cable and have Zone Alarm, prevx1, and norton, i just allowed the ports 6881-6889 on my normal firewall for xp, please please PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO MAKE THIS RUN FASTER!!!! at this rate itll take 5 days! do i need to open the ports on all the mentioned virus/firewall things, or should i just exit out of them?
Don't use those ports.. 90% of isp's block them these days. Comcast do if they detect traffic directed in and out on them.
I think I should warn you.. When you finally work out how to display all the stuff you have for your sig it will get pounced on big time by the moderators.. Please read the rules.. especially about sigs. At least one of your pics is too big on it's own. And this one is very close to the maximum file size allowed http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/719/disconnectoranimationgx3.gif

Mine is close to the max size in pixels and text.[/quote]ok, thanx for the sig tip, i appreciate it
As stated, don't use those ports; select a range of ports over 10,000 but the more downloads you have going, the slower your speeds will be as you're just sharing your bandwidth between them. I believe you need 1 port open for each file. Stick to 1 firewall as they can cause a conflict and allow your client through it and if you use a router, it has to be port forwarded. As far as Previx1, not sure, close it down during downloads and see if that helps.
thank you everyone, ill try again, and any more replies would be great, and to those of you who don't want to "waste" their time helping others, you dont have to if you dont want to... but just remember, you had to learn at one point too
I've never used BitTorrent but this from the Port Forward site "If you plan on downloading multiple files at the same time via BitTorrent, you need to open up one port for each file".
