problem with speed of dvd burner

Hi, when i first purchased my dvd reader/writer it only took about 20-30 mins to read and then the same amount of time to burn. After about a month it started taking about an hour for each step. I am using a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW burner and the media is Sony DVD+R discs. The discs are 1x-16x. The burner is supposed to read and burn at 18x. The program that I have been using for reading/burning is DVDXGold 2.0.0.28. I have already done a virus scan and it seems to be ok. Any suggestions on how to speed up the reading/burning process?

Check to make sure the DMA transfer mode is set on your DVD drives:

yep your drives probably got in PIO mode you need to get them back to DMA mode use device manager to fix that or the guide posted
