I am trying to backup one of my DVD's. I used DVDDecrypter to rip it to my hardrive.
I then use DVDshrink to tweak the files (e.g.compress the special features and leave the main film uncompressed). I then re-author it. It plays fine on my HDD. When I burn it to DVD using Nero 6. The disk always crashes at chapter 5. I thought this could be a damaged disk so i burnt another - same thing. The movie is perfect on my HDD. What am I doing wrong?

Does it play on your Burner drive on your PC? (Not from HDD but from the burnt DVD). If it does I suspect it may be your media. Some Cheaper media strugles to play the entire movie. I find Maxdata Discs play on my Sony Burner, My Pioneer Player, but struggle on my Playstation (drops out about half way through with "Unable to read disc". If I use princo or pioneer CD's they work perfectly on everything.

Hope this helps

The Movie does not play back from the drive i burnt it to. When i put the disk in it freezes for about 10 min. the disk just spins. it thens opens up (powerdvd and windvd). it plays the 1st 4 chapters then crashes on the 5th. I am using Packard Bell DVD-R disks. Also i put it in my PS2 to play and it says 'invalid format'.

Is the film the correct size (4.4GB) to be burnt to a DVD as you say you leave the film uncompressed but compress the extra features. I have never got a DVD (unless its a 5) that will let me leave the film uncompressed!

Probs sound that it is the media which your DVD burnner does not like. Also PS2 does not like DVD+R so if your using +R don't! Use DVD-R.

I am using DVD-R. I have Toshiba DVD Writer.
The Size of the film before compression is 5.9gb. Compress it with DVDShrink which brings it down to 4.1 GB.
Do you think it could be something to to with APSI layers?

Instead of Nero, you could use recordnow max. I have had great success with it.

You could also use CloneDVD or TMPGEnc DVD Author to write to DVD-R.
