I'm using winavi and trying to convert these files below to AVI.
I'm using the new winavi beta 8. Do I use all of these files?
One problem is the file is so big at 1,777,18 KB. Most of the AVI files I have are around 750,00 KB

VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_03_0.VOB

VTS_01_0.VOB is a menu, don't want that.
VIDEO_TS.VOB is a title set, don't want that.

You would select these
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB

I don't know what VTS_02 or VTS_03 are , they may be extra content.
You would have click on them and play them to figure out what they are.

Also you have to make sure that you have the files in numerical order in WINAVI (you can move them up and down once they are imported) also they have to be merged into one.
Check the help file, it's explained there.

Personally, I prefer AutoGordianKnot.
Much simpler and proven reliable (and free)!

Thanks, why are most movie files (AVI) around 700,000KB and mine are around 1,700,000KB?

Without changing anything (simply accepting the defaults)I can take 2GB of DVD and convert to 486MB AVI.

Edit:Are you 'Shrinking' the DVD files before converting to AVI?
If not, you end up with a large file.

I tried using Nero recode and DVD Shrink but the file is still large.

Do I shrink it to the hard drive?

Yes.The disk is ripped to the hard drive.
DVD Shrink can compress the files to fit a single DVD.
You can burn a new DVD with the output from DVD Shrink or take those files and further convert it to AVI format.

Thanks again. I'm using the new beta 8 winavi. 6.3 doesn't work, and 7.7 works half way? 7.7 works half way through then stops. I don't know why it does that.

Unless you have purchased Winavi, I would switch to AutoGordianKnot.
Winavi seems to have conversion to an AVI as an afterthought.
GordianKnot allows you to select the virst VOB file and automatically bring in the rest.
At step 3 you can force selection to 1 CD size (700MB).

As a matter of fact the last few days Vista has really been pissing me off (files that can't be deleted, and slow moving files, and other issues) I was looking for my xp pro disc today and I can't find it. I have xp home but I don't know if I should use it.

I tried this trial version of Isofer DVD deluxe and for the last 5 hours it's still trying to convert to AVI. I can see it's almost done. I'm sure not buying that crappy software.
