Go to the link and download HijackThis.

Then, open HijackThis and click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile". It will generate a log for me. Copy and paste that log into a reply, not a new thread.

Zinblog is a not-so-wanted piece of junk :) Fortunately, it is not *too* difficult to remove. Let's get started!

Download Avira AntiVir from http://www.free-av.com. Install, update, and run it, too. Keep this program on your computer after the fix as you will need an antivirus no matter what time it is. Don't forget to update, either. Delete any junk it finds, and post the report in your next reply.

Next, pay http://www.lavasoft.com a visit and get their nice Ad-Aware SE Personal. You will also need this as it is a general cleaner for your computer. Update your definitions file and run the program, telling it to perform a full system scan and search for low-risk threats. If you've never done this before, expect at least 100 "bad" files, mostly tracking cookies. This is normal. Any others are not so normal. Remove everything. Save a logfile and post it in your next reply.

In your HijackThis:

Do a scan only. When it finishes, place check marks beside the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://zinblog.com/
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\system\lsass.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - %windir%\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - %windir%\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe (file missing)

Close all open browser windows (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Windows Explorer which includes folders, etc.) and click "Fix Checked".

Please download VundoFix to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Download this older version of HijackThis and put it on your desktop. Rename it to asdf.exe. Do a scan and post another logfile.

Could I have the logfile of the older version of HijackThis (the one I had you rename to asdf.exe)?

I just got a notification from Vundo that it deteted a threat WORM/Stration.AF. I got that notification before and deleted it but it seem that it is back. I selected "delete" on VundoFix. I assume it will be back.

To rename it, right click and select "rename".

If you have Vundo, it would indeed be a problem.

Go here and wait a few seconds. If download does not start, then click there to start it. Right click on the file that just downloaded, and rename it to asdf.exe. It operates just like Trend Micro HijackThis, so you can do a scan and post a logfile.

Vundo is malware, and it sometimes hides lines (namely O2s and O20s) in a HijackThis logfile.

Oookay... never mind that then, and use Trend Micro HijackThis Beta.

Can you post me another logfile? I need to have a refresher :)

I'm pretty sure I've fixed that already... Vivamex is somehow putting Zinblog back as your start page.

Open up HijackThis and open up the Misc. tools section (if you are at the "Scan" screen, click "Config"). Click on "Open Uninstall Manager" and hit "Save List". Save it anywhere you like, and a Notepad document will pop up. Copy and paste the contents of that document into your next reply.

Hmm... let's try this. Open up the Start Menu, click "Run", and type "regedit" (without quotes). Click on the "+" sign beside HKEY_CURRENT_USER. A list should 'fold' down; find Software and click on the "+" sign beside it. Press "m" and look slightly below the highlited entry for "Microsoft". Now press "i" and look for Internet Explorer. Click the "+" beside Internet Explorer and click on "Main". In the right, a long list should appear. Look for the item called "Search Page", and beside it, the data should say "http://www.zinblog.com". Right-click, and select Modify. In the box, type (without quotes) "http://en.wikipedia.org". Press "OK". Now, click on the first item (Default) and hold the "Shift" key. Press the last item, which should be called "Window_Placement". All the entries will be highlited. Click the "File" menu and press "Export". Save it as a text file (.txt). It is not as nice as HijackThis and will not open the file automatically, however you should be able to find it. Post the contents of that file in your next reply.

Do a HijackThis scan and save a log. Post that in your next reply as well.

Do not mess around with Regedit in your spare time. Regedit + Screwed up = Reinstalled OS.

Okay, we'll have to do this the hard way...

Go to Start Menu and open up My Computer. In the Address Bar (where the URL would be if you were accessing a website) copy and paste the following:

C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe

Regedit should come up, follow the instructions above. I'll look at your Uninstall List in a while, kind of preoccupied right now :)

I could not acces it when I click my computer. That brought up my C and other drives. So I went back and open a web site and inserted the address C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe Got a disallowed message.

Accessing the source C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe has been disallowed.

Thanks

Copy this post into a Notepad or Word document and save it on your desktop to look at as we go through the fix. This is because we will be in Safe Mode. Also, follow directions in this post instead of my last one.

Damn Viva TermeX... so thorough...

We will have to do this the very hard way, then....

Disable System Restore.

Open the Start Menu, and open "All Programs". Go to Accessories > Notepad.

Now, paste the following quotebox exactly as it appears (without the word "Quote:") into the Notepad document:

Quote:
On Error Resume Next
Set shl = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Set fso = CreateObject("scripting.FileSystemObject")
shl.RegDelete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableRegistryTools"
shl.RegDelete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableTaskMgr"
shl.RegDelete "HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableRegistryTools"
shl.RegDelete "HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableTaskMgr"
Go to File > Save As. Type "FixReg.VBS" in the File Name box, and in the "Save as Type" box, change "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files". Save it anywhere you want, such as the desktop.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (use the F8 method, it is easier). When you have started up in Safe Mode, double-click on FixReg to run the file.

Open Regedit via Start > Run or C:\Windows\regedit.exe. Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Then:

1. Click on the + beside SOFTWARE.
2. Click on the + beside Microsoft.
3. Click on the + beside Windows.
4. Click on the + beside CurrentVersion.
5. Click on Run.
6. Many files should appear in the right. Look for the following:

Task Manager = "%Windows%\svchost32.exe"

7. Right-click on the file and press "Delete".

If you don't find the file, don't panic :)

8. Scroll all the way back up in the left panel and double-click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Follow steps 1 and 2. Then, press the "i" key on your keyboard and look for Internet Explorer; press the "+" button beside it. When that folder has opened, press the "m" key and click on "Main". In the right pane again, right-click on this entry and press "Delete":

Window Title = "Viva TermeX !"

9. Now, find HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Policies>
Microsoft>Internet Explorer. When you get there, click on "Control Panel". In the right, delete:

HomePage = "1"

10. Follow step 9, except with HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Yahoo>
pager>View as the path. When you get there, click YMSGR_buzz and delete:

content url = "http://www.{BLOCKED}cities.co.jp/thanatos18388"

11. Almost there! Follow step 10 but at the last step, click on YMSGR_Launchcast and delete

content url = "http://www.{BLOCKED}cities.co.jp/thanatos18388"

12. Close Regedit :)

Do not reboot into normal mode yet.

This procedure restores the Internet Explorer home page to the default settings.

1. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
2. Open Control Panel. Click Start>Settings>Control Panel.
3. Double-click the Internet Options icon.
4. In the Internet Properties window, click the Programs tab.
5. Click the Reset Web Settings? button.
6. Select Also reset my home page. Click Yes.
7. Click OK.
8. Now, restart your computer, this time without Safe Mode.

Now, go here and scan. When the scan finishes, post a log/report of that scan. Also, post a fresh HijackThis logfile.
