I'm having a hard time getting my sony DW-U10 a to burn at 4x. In Nero it only allows me to burn at 2x can anyone help me out. I'm not interested in flasing to 500a; I just want to burn at 4x. If anyone knows how to do this please tell me.

OK, I'll try again. I'm really trying to keep it a dw-u10a; don't want to mess it up. I've heard stories of people flashing to dru 500 and then not being able to burn discs or flash back to u-10a.

bridq-
Assuming that you have a burner capable of writing at X4 (either a new burner or one with upgraded firmware ? obtainable please see
UBBCODESdvdrwservices.com
And further assuming that you are using a good quality DVD 4X media
(I found that using a ?no name? 4X media was a stumbling block for me)
Try the following -
When burning using Nero I suggest you use the "regular" Nero - not the "Wizard". Select DVD under New Compilation, then chose DVD Video. Under the BURN tag select "Determine maximum speed". This will allow Nero to find out what your system can produce. i.e. if your processor or RAM can't supply Nero with enough information to write at 4X you will be stuck at your original X 2.4. Should you be connected via a USB under a 2.0 or have too many programs running "behind the scenes" once again expect to be put at X2.4 speed. The 4X speed that you seek is an obtainable ONLY under the most optimal conditions.
Hope this might help a bit-
