Nero is not working out for me lately. It used to work fine, I don't know what's wrong.

You guys have been a huge help in figuring this out so far, so I thought I'd post my new issue.

Nero won't write past 9%. It just stops. Doesn't lock up, doesn't give an error code, doesn't do anything. The time keeps running on, but no progress is being made.

I can't even post an error log since I"m not getting an error message.

What can I do?

Hello.

Here are some things to try.

Use Device Manager to reset your burner. You can use Device Manager to uninstall your burner which will be automatically reinstalled upon restarting your system. You can reset the DMA transfer mode on your comm channel as follows:

WinXP: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Uninstall Nero. Run the Nero Clean Tool for either N6 or N7, as well as the Driver/Registry Clean Tool. Lastly, reinstall Nero. Be sure to use a stable version like 6.6.0.18, 7.5.9.0, or 7.8.5.0.

Reset your OS to an earlier restore point when things worked correctly.

How can I set it to an earlier restore point.

All my problems started when I switched ISP's, and I think I uninstalled my old virus software before re-installing my new one. When I was running the ISP software, C prompt popped up on my screen and deleted all of my system32 files. I couldn't stop it. After that, Windows wouldn't even load.

I reloaded my operating system, and ever since then I've had nothing but problems. Nero isn't working, my USB ports won't load, when I double click the internet explorer icon on my desktop it makes a shortcut instead of opening the program. I'm just trying to fix these one by one.

I had Nero 7, ran the clean uninstall tool, and then reverted back to 6. whatever (the version DVD Shrink recommends on their site, it's the one you mentioned with the .18 in it). It still isn't working.

I will uninstall my burner, and restart and see what happens. I have logfiles posted under a different post by me on this board.
Nero 7 was giving me "reset error" "could not perform end of disc-at-once" errors. Now Nero 6 won't go past 9%!

Thanks if you're still reading this far. I'm having trouble sorting it out.

I'm interested in resetting windows to when things worked, like 6 months ago. Will all the files I've created since then be gone?

Using the system restore doesn't affect data files.

Click the Start button > go to All Programs > Then To Accessories > Then To Systems Tools > System Restore. You can also start it by clicking on Start > Help And Support and clicking Undo Changes To Your Computer With System Restore in the right column under Pick A Task. You will see the System Restore window, with 3 options:

1. Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time
2. Create A Restore Point.
3. Undo My Last Restoration. (If you've restored your system to a restore point recently, this third option also appears, otherwise just the first two)

If you've reinstalled your system recently, you'll only be able to go back that far. It sounds as though you have some major problems so I doubt the system restore will work for you. I think your system is missing some drivers or else you're motherboard may be bad.

I'd backup my data and reformat the system hard drive. Then reinstall your OS again from scratch.
