Hi aditek
I think it might be more of your drive acting weird.
I have the same one and have used the same discs w/ it - Verbatim 16x and my results are pretty hit or miss with it.
The only diff is my firmware version is 1.02 - yours is 1.03.

Your getting an unrecoverable read error - could be pointing to the media. Try a different brand like Taiyo Yuden or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Try and get 8x media if you can.

Try taking the burn speed down to 6x or 4x.

Keeping up on the pc maintenance too? May not solve this but good to do anyhow like disc defrag, disc cleanup, registry cleaner and virus scans.

You can try another burning program like ImgBurn.
Give it a shot but you might still get a failed burn.
Post the log from ImgBurn if you do. Just press 'L' when you open ImgBurn.
Use the build mode to add the video_ts folder.
Set the burn speed at 6x or 4x.

Those Dynex are actually made by MCC - good brand but they have given me problems on this drive too. Other drive they're fine. No burn failures or skipping.

Nope you did it right - burn just failed again.
This log is throwing up a power calibration error.
Now since this is a laptop a little harder to check the power or switch connectors.

But still we need to rule out media 1st.
So switch the media to Verbatim 8x, or made in japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
You can also try cleaning the lens of the drive softly with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Q-Tip should be slightly damp - no liquid should get into this area.

One other thing to do - again this may not help but good to do anyhow is a scan disc. Check the hard drive for errors.
May take away depending on how much space is used.
Open 'my computer' right click on the c drive (your hard drive) and go to the tools tab. Under error checking click on check now. Check both boxes then start. Reboot the pc and the check will start.

Ok - did you try different discs? If so which ones?

Other causes of the power calibration error are the power supply and then the drive itself. Since this is a laptop the power supply ain't the easiest thing to check.

Is this drive still under warranty by chance?

Check the laptop manufacturers site for any updates they might have for this laptop. Some manufacturers also have a utility program to check the hardware.

Nope skip the Memerox - the 16x can be made by Ritek or Ricoh which are decent but I don't think this drive would do well with them.
I don't have the best of experiences with this drive :)

I was just helping someone else with this same drive - what finally did the trick for them was Maxell 8x made in Japan. Though in store 8x media is getting harder to find.
See if you can get any 8x like Verbatim, made in japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

Oh and not a problem - I hope finding compatible media for this picky drive will get you burning again!

I'm still thinking it's a media problem - drive is just very picky w/ 16x media (my experience at least w/ it).

Take the burn down to 6x or 4x see if that makes a diff.
The burn on these Sony's is failing towards the end of the burn.
Run these files thru Recode and reduce the target size to 4360 or 4300.

Try those 2 and let us know.

I just picked up a pack of these same Sony's - I'll have to try them on this drive and see what happens.

Yeah I haven't had the best of luck w/ 16x media on it. I'm going to the Sony's on it this week.

The disc is fully recognized by the drive though which is a big plus.

Try reducing the target size and lowering the burn speed 1st.

Could be the drive itself.
At some point they start to wear down - laptops ones it seems faster than their pc counterparts.

Try playing this back in the laptop or another pc and see if you have the same skipping/pausing.
If not then the player may be it - try cleaning the lens with a dvd lens cleaner.

Do a scan on 1 or 2 of these discs that skips. In Nero go to Toolkit>cd-dvd speed>disc scan. It will show if there are any bad parts.
