Try this: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...xtodvd_free.cfm Edit: sorry, not mpg. The trial of MainConceot is openended and converts to mpg but will put a watermark in the upper left which may not bother you.

If you're looking to make DVD compliant files, you can try DVD Flick (Freeware).

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

with the DVD Flick, what type of files will the .avi files be converted into? im not so much trying to burn on dvd's for watching, but im burning the files in mpg format onto the dvd as DATA so i can simply store all the files on dvd and when i want to watch them just run them on my computer... would i be able to do this with DVD Flick?? and also how easy is that program to use? like i said before, im not very educated on all the different kinds of files and how they differ and what they are made up of, so im not sure what im doing when i convert the files, all i know is id rather have the AVI files in mpg format.... any help?? thanks so much!!

If the mpg are just going to be burned as data to view on your pc, why not just burn the avi's as data for now. You can always reinstall them to your pc to convert later and to maintain any kind of quality, the mpg's will have to be much larger.

to dingerdms-it may be difficult to find a good AVI files converter for free.most of the AVI converters that will give you a good conversion to dvd cost about thirty dollars.two such converters are ConvertXtoDVD and apollo DivX to dvd creator.once you buy any of these programs you can upgrade your computer and reinstall the program.
