There is a movie that i plan on wanting to tape this week. However, it is on late at night, so of course i wont be awake. I am going to timer record it on a blank VHS and then the next day, transfer it to a blank DVD disc. The channel i will be recording on takes commercials however and i do not want those on when i transfer the movie to DVD from VHS. When i do the transfer onto DVD, is there anyway i can transfer the movie to DVD and leave out the commercials? If anyone who understands what im asking can please help, id greatly appreciate it.
I think you should record it directly to dvd, better quality and less hassle. If you use some editable format (maybe like dvd-vr, don't remember those for sure), it's easy (at least with couple recorders I've used) to drop ie. commercials.
And if you got the tape already, and want to leave commercials out, just pause the recordind? Or if you are with computer, you could record those clips separately (well both options could be possible, depending on your devices and software).
Hi techbud, if you are using a stand alone dvd recorder, program your recorder and use rw media and check your manual on how to either split, delete and merge titles or insert chapter marks and hide chapters. If it's to be played on a player other than your recorder I would suggest to split, delete and merge titles as hiding chapters might not work on other players meaning you might still see the hidden commercials anyway.
Some recorders won't even let you do any editing on dvds, some will on RWs only and others on both RWs and Rs (not finalized), all depends on your recorder if that's what your using to burn your dvd. If you're transferring your VHS recording to PC via capture card, maybe somebody here can help but this board is mainly for stand alone recorder users.
Ok then, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the editing capabilities of your recorder. If it has editing features, then program your timer on your recorder and the next day do your editing.
If what you're trying to accomplish is to set the recorder and have it omit recording the commercials, I not aware of any models that has that capability, but that might just be my lack of knowledge of other models.
So take a good gander at the split/delete/merge titles or the insert/hide chapter options of your recorder (if any) for after-the-fact editing.
