dvd drive won't burn - DMA driver error, CRC error

Hello, I installed a DVD burner drive into my system. The drive seems to work fine, it reads discs fine but when I try to burn a disc (I have only tried CD up till now) I get the following message when using Nero 7 premium:
"DMA driver error, CRC error"
I looked at some other posts and made sure my DMA was "on". I also tried burning with the software in XP but it fails in this as well. I downloaded what I think is an updated driver for the drive - at www.drvupdate.com (there's a sticker on my drive).This installed a live update program and installed an updated driver, or so it said. 1st thing edit out the serial at the top of the log - begins w/ 5C.
Don't need someone else using it.
When you installed the new drive did you set the jumper pin on the back of the drive to 'master'? The jumper pin should match which connectors it's on. From the log the dvd drive is on the master the CyberDrive is on the slave. The cyberdrive's jumper pin should be set to slave.
If this is a Dell pc though they prefer cable select.
That may be the reason for the crc error.
Here's a few other suggestions:
Update Nero - quite a few fixes and enhancements since the version you're using. The latest is 7.8.5.0
Physical memory : 479MB
Free physical memory: 74MB
Memory in use : 84 %
Quite a bit of memory in use so no multi tasking and close any unneeded programs.
Recorder: <DVDRW IDE 16X> Version: A091
Looks like the latest firmware is A187.

Thanks a lot Binkie 7 - I'll try those things. I did set he Dvd drive to master and the Cd drive to slave - however - I remember that the original cd drive was set to cable select - so maybe that's the problem. I'll give the updates a whirl and then check the pins if that doesn't work. Is there a way I can edit that info out now - or was that just for future reference? Thanks a ton for the quick reply. Yeah you should edit the post now - serial out there for anyone to use.
Look to the right of the post and you'll see what looks like a pencil & paper. Click on that to edit the post.
If the original set up was cable select go back to that one for both drives. Again Dell pc's are big ones for this.

Hey - I tried what you suggested - updated the firmware with the link provided and then put both drives on cable select. I tried updating Nero but it got a little messed up - looks like I'll have to start over with that oner. However when I tried to "copy audio files to cd" (ie using the media player burning program) the same thing happened as before. Could it be the discs? They are Sony. I don't have others but I could try them. Seems funny though - they work in my CD drive. I'm not sure what to try next - any suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

hmmm. so I tried switching the drives around (they are still on cable select so I don't think this would matter). I also tried switching the burning speed to "medium" and it worked. Could this have been the problem the whole time? Does it make any sense? Pretty particular little computer isn't he....hopefully this solves my probs. Thanks again for the help. This is a great site.

Sounds like switching the drives around did the trick.
Glad that did it for you.
Depending of the rated speed of the media - medium in wmp may be close to burning at 24x like in the Nero. It's almost half of what this drive supports burning cd's at.
For the Nero update - Do a clean install of Nero - uninstall - run the clean tool.
Reboot and now install the later version.
Any problems just post back.
