In backup up DVDs with complex menu systems, I'm wondering what software works best. For example, looking at Moulin Rouge, the menus are two levels deep and the navigation is complex. TMPGEnc doesn't seem able to do this.

The current backup method we're using is to have one disk be specifically the movie by itself and then make a copy of the original DVD with the movie set as "still pictures" compression level.

Recommendation? Am I missing something?

Yeah, TMPGEnc DVD Author doesnt supprt complex menus, but i guess an update of it (one was just released) may. However, in the meantime, check out Pinnacle Studio 8

The latest TMPGEnc DVD Author (v1.5.13.44) does support much more complex menu systems.
Another option would be the old standby...Spruce-Up, which allows as complex menues as you like, and remains easy-as-pie to use.

Trying the latest TMPGEng DVD Author, it still won't let me select more than one audio track for the movie. If I wish to include a comentary audio track along with the normal audio track for a movie, I can't seem to do it.

I'll try Spruce up tonight...

Try using DVDShrink... you may be able to get the whole original DVD backed up without sacrificing any content.
