try flask mpeg encoder. it is free and very good in my opinion. Tmpeg, if you can find it it is very good.

is cinema craft pretty good, how much better is it compared to TMPEG encoder. i would like to know becasue if it is better than TMPEG for converting AVI to mpeg then i would like to get it.

Well in the Time it would take TMPGEnc to encode at 2 pass encoding (from an AVI source) CCE SP would have done 4 passes! The quality is superior IMHO!
