Yes it is possible, and reasonably easy (providing you do read up on it)

I would personally recommend a PSP over a DS if your only interested in emulation, the power of the PSP processor is much better for emulation than the DS.

Yeah, the only emulator that works really nicely on the ds is the snes emulator called SNEmulDS, but even this emulator doesn't work perfectly with all games. The ones it does work with are emulated very nicely though.

Mind pointing me in the direction of how to get SNEmulDS to work on my DS (r4 with 1 gig tf)? Have not used homebrew to date but would love to try. thanks in advance.

Sure thing, DVDBack23
What you will need is the .nds file called SNEmulDS_M3S_R4.nds
You can get it here from the official site
http://snemul.com/ds/SNEmulDSv05b_M3S_R4.zip
Put this .nds file along side your games in the same folder or make a separate folder called homebrew, that is what I do. You just need to be able to run SNEmulDS_M3S_R4.nds
Now in the root of your memory card make a folder called SNES, put all your snes games in there and your ready to go
Turn on the nds(l)
run SNEmulDS_M3S_R4.nds
choose your game with the stylus
press start when prompted and then enjoy
you can change to another game without turning off the ds by choosing select ROM on the touch screen
I recommend this site for emulators and homebrew on the ds
http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/scummvmds.shtml
Sometimes a emulator/homebrew app needs to be patched with the dldi tool in order for it to work.
When that is the case just go here and download the DLDI tool and patch your .nds file with the appropriate patch for your flash cart.
