Nero SoundTrax 2 crashes when I try to save AAC files

I've been trying to use a Nero Instant Music box to convert music cassettes to digital files. I'd like to save them as AAC format files for use in my iPod, but SoundTrax 2 closes down instantly when I select AAC as the file type. It also doesn't like it if I save the file as MP4, and then try to export to AAC - in this case, it closes down AND corrupts the MP4 file so that you have to rip it from the tape all over again. Can anybody advise, or point me in the direction of better help than the help than Nero provide?
