This is driving me crazy. I am trying to burn a DVD with Clonedvd2. I get almost 85% and it crashes. It says bad media. I am using Memerox dvds. I even lowered the speed. What can cause this? I even tried using DVD Decrypter and it keeps crashing. Can someone please help me out?

Thanks

Please post your DVD Burner model number as well as the firmware version you are using. We can suggest a few problem areas to look at.
Memorex is not the best choice for DVD media, but it sounds like a firmware issue with your burner not properly recognizing the write strategy for that particular type of media.
You can also download Imgburn from filehippo.com
and try updating your drive thru that program.
Tools>Drive>check for firmware updates.
Also please post the specs of your computer, Operating system, Memory capacity, processor speed. All this will help.

Good call blivet. Definetley seems like a firmware issue. And by all means, take up skeet shooting and use those Memorex discs as your targets. By far some of the worst media ever. Hey braller, have you ever tried using DVDFab Decrypter? I see you still have the old DVD Decrypter. Try DVDFab, I think you'll be more impressed and find it's very simple and reliable!

First time I ever heard a duck advising someone to practice shooting flying objects with a 12 gauge. You're not dizzy from someone taking too many shots at you are you?

Here is the firmware update for your drive, please be careful which drive manufacturer you select.Firmware

These disks won't do you any favors, but from reading the posts here and at CD Freaks your drive is pretty fickle when it comes to any media. Try the firmware update and it should cure the problem. I recommend using Verbs, Taiyo Yuden, Ritek or Sony type disks as I never have a problem with them.

Nope, way too many variables involved, spyware, virus, trojan, new programs-software, windows update, I would need to know everything in your computer is suspect at one time or another.
FYI, I forgot to mention this, use IMGBurn for burning, the same guy, LightningUK wrote both programs, but IMGBurn is a more recent program and is updated frequently. Better burning program.

My next suggestion would be to try different media, I personally hate CMC MAG disks with a passion usually reserved for child sex offenders. I was hesitant to suggest a different media because they usually do burn, but have playback issues and don't last that long due to dye decompostion etc. See if you can steal a couple of Verbatim or Ritek disks from your buddies, or, buy some. and see if that works better.
I'm going to ask someone else for her eye to see if she can spot this one, firmware is updated, so that leaves the media as far as I can see. Check to see if you DMA is turned on.. it probably is but can't hurt to look anyways.

One thing you must know about memorex DVDs is that they are inconsistent...sometimes you will be lucky and get an acceptable (I was going to say good..but couldnt bring myself to do it) spindle which will show successful burns and then for no reason, other than poor manufacturing, you will start to have problems....it's just a "lucky draw" when you use these discs.

Bite the bullett...try Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)

Heres something on memorex

You may have too much stuff running in the background. Try disabling everything that isn't essential, when burning discs. Burning uses a good bit of memory, during the process. Definitely don't do any multi-tasking while burning.

Also make sure you have plenty of HD space. You'll need about 10 GB free space, as a rule of thumb.
Also, when's the last time you defragged your hard drive? If the files are fragmented too bad, it can cause problems.

Did you disable AnyDVD, when trying to burn with IMGBurn?

I hope one of these suggestions helps. Good luck!

I tried defragging the hard drive. Deleted extra files to give more room. Got the same errors...

What was weird was I was using Memorex discs and was working fine..I then had a spindle of TDKs and having nothing but problem. I used to use TDKs with no problem.

So you guys recommend Ritek?

i was having the same problem at one point. I am STILL not sure what to do about it. i usually just compressed the extras on a dvd disc with shrink, and then used decrypter to write the iso image to the disc. however, that hasnt been working lately either.

This question might sound like an extremely noobish question, but is there any way to burn dvd copy protected discs????

Thanks for anyones help, and im sorry for being a newbie

You never have mentioned what you're using to get by the copy protection? Are you using AnyDVD? If not, you need to get that, to go along with CloneDVD. Hard to beat those two together. You can get a free trial of it at: http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html
