Chips range from $23 to abot $55 depending on what you want to do. The install is about $35 plus shipping.

Swap Magic is a set of discs that with one other mod can also play most back up copies. It is the cheap way of modding but less hassle free then a chip.

if you have a question then ask it, "meaning" doesn't tell me what you want. If you are talking about the "depends on what you want" thing:

Well some chips have higher end functions like the ability to run internal hard drives (on fat models). Others have the ability to patch back up games for online play saving you from patching them manually. Some can play DVD9 (dual layer) back ups without patching and others can not. Some have ugrades being made (firmware) that will keep the chip more up to date, others do not. Then there are chips like the Duo3 Gold which are very cheap. But also very good and stable. But no high end features. But they will load back up disks if that is all you want.

My top 4 picks:
Crystal Chip V2.0
Matrix Infinity
DMS4 Pro SE
Duo3 Gold

stick with one of those and you will be just fine

as for chip VS SWap Magic:
Swap Magic you have to swap discs, not with a chip
Swap Magic has problems playing games with cheats using a cheat disc, not with a chip (make sure the cheat disc is compatible first)
Swap magic has screen cut off playing games from other regions, not with a chip.
Swap magic can not play DVD9, a chip can if you patch it as long as it plays DVD9 originals, which most will.
Swap magic you need to rebuild some games or remove dummy files, not with a chip.

The chip is the more expensive way to go, but there is a reason for it. It is an all around better product and you get what you pay for.
