I have been using Nero for a long time.
It gave me the following error recently. All the DVD's that I'm trying to burn are wasted.

Need some help figuring out whats the prob.

posting the log is good but I am no expert I would however recommend editing out your serial number quickly starts with 1A21 ****
someone who knows more will look over your error log perhaps some more details like what files or formats you are attempting to burn and what player you might be trying to play them on and the brand of media
your write speed 4x is good
goodluck

Not the best brand but surly not the worst using DVD-RW to burn DVD is not the best way to go burning 4gig of data on a rewriteable disk can cause problems does it do it on write once media i.e. DVD-R or DVD+

Earlier I used PHILIPS DVD+R, It did give the same problem,so i restarted the comp and tried burning again and it worked. but not this time.
I usually compress the DVD with DVD Shrink and then burn it onto the DVD using Nero. IT never gave me any trouble. I checked all the primary and secondary drives for DMA, updated Nero, tried all by browsing this forum. Nothing Worked. So rolled back to what I had been using(i mean removed all the updates to Nero that I had applied after this problem occured).

Actually, I use different brands. Philips gave me good results. Even TDK gave me good results till now. I burned about 25 disks till date.

As u suggested, I will give it a shot with a different brand and let u know.

Appreciate the suggestions.

Did some research on this drive
Quote:
Recorder: <QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082> Version: LX44

and the results aren't very good. There seem to be a lot of issues with that drive and how picky it is on media. You should try and get to the manufactures website (good luck) http://www.qsinc.com.tw and see what brand of media this will support and if you can get a firmware upgrade. What laptop brand and model do you have? You could try there support page also.

Also from looking at your log you are using the Phillips DVD's
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: PHILIPS, Media Type ID: 041
These look like very picky drives and you may need to find just the right media that will work with these (probably some older media x8 or x4) stay away from anything greater than x8.

Also is this media RW? Because the media code 041 is saying these are rewritable disks you should really be trying some +R or -R disks.

@bhavanik
good to see you got support - I'd certainly upgrade the burners firmware and try different media and perhaps try burning a dvd using a totally different program to Nero just to know the burner is not at fault.
I had problems with Nero until I got version 7
have you got Clone Dvd ? You could burn a dvd on that software and if it works properly *perhaps* Nero is at fault.
GoodLuck I hope you get this resolved - cheers

So here's the thing. Looks like the media I was using was at fault, but not totally. I tried to burn the same with a new disk(TDK), and guess what, It worked fine without any error.

I searched for the firmware upgrade, but wasn't any. So gave up.
If it happens again, i'm sure i'm going to through this laptop and go for a new one.

Thanx a lot sorrow93 & bbmayo. Really appreciate your support

you came to the right place for help
I swear by TDK although some disagree I've always relied on TDK
I tend to go for things and brands that work and they gain mass trust
hope it works out for you, and if you go for a new burner instead of a laptop they are so cheap nowadays
I don't mean to be bias but I also love Pioneer burners highly recommended and fairly priced.
one last advice on the firmware have you ever tried the cdfreaks.com website try a search?
cheers and happy burning into the future
just happy to try and help

bhavanik,

Well I searched all over the net to include cdfreaks.com and I had no luck finding a firmware upgrade for your burner either which is sad because it is an older burner and they all will require a firmware upgrade eventually just to be able to read the newer media. You could check out an external USB2 DVDRW for your laptop. Most Laptops optical drives just don't cut the mustard and you would probably be better off getting a good external one anyway. As far as the media goes it isn't all that important on the brand as long as you find one that works well for you. Everyone will have different results with different brands there are just to many different variables on everyones systems to say because one brand works good for one person doesnt mean it will work for another. Myself I have had the best results with Verbatim and TY's.

Good Luck

One more question buddy,
If i buy any of the suggested burners above, would I be able to use the rewritable disks? Or do i have to use burner specific disks, i mean DVD-R burner with DVD-R disk and DVD+R burner with DVD+R?

excellent advice from bbmayo could not have said it better
the DVD-R and DVD+R formats are all compatible today there was only problems years back
You can buy whatever media you fancy and judge for yourself and rewritables are good but when you are confident I'd choose the write-once and dual-layers are still a bit expensive
I hope you go well
