Lose network connection when closing eMule

I know that there have been similar complaints before, but usually them problem seems to be that people lose their connection during the use of eMule. My problem lies that when i close eMule i lose my internet connection. Im not using a D-Link router either but a bastardised Netgear router supplied by Sky Broadband. I can then only regain my connection by restarting my computer (repairing or disabling then enabling my network connection does absolutely sweet fa). Can anyone shed any light on this?
