Have recently run into a problem I never had before. Nero 7 was too bloated so went back to 6. Used clean tool etc. Firmware updated. Cleared NVRAM. _NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD [CD-ROM drive]
SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E [CD-ROM drive] are the two drives. One read only, the other read & write. Run in DMA at slowest speed I can. Burns about 4 minutes, then bam. Error messages and dvd eject. Here is the latest log. Please, if you see what's causing this, please let me know. By the way, I switched media too thinking that may be the issue. Nope, no change. Thanx in advance for the help.

I heard that this version is ok..... I use 6.6.0.18 which I know is perfect without any bugs to it!
Before udating to 6.6.0.18 I would save the serial #, uninstall Nero, then use the cleaning tools : http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Clean_Tools.html
then do a registry clean up(free registry cleaner, CClean: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloadpage.aspx?1) and defrag...... then reboot!
install package one:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/?539
then install package two:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Patch_for_NVE3.html
reboot and you're good to go!

Packet writing utilities such as "InCD" are notorious for interfering with burn processes, as the way it works is to continually poll the burner to check for new media.
This prevents the burn application gaining exclusive access to the burner, and sense code errors will happen - every time.
Get rid of all packet writing utilities.
They are more trouble than they are worth.

IHoe,
Thanx for the comeback. Excuse my newbieness but "writing packets"?
What is that and how do I get rid of it? Is the the INcd stuff? If so, it's already history.

IHoe,
Did as you suggested. No luck. Got the usual burn failure message after about 4 minutes. I'll send the new log for you to check out. Also, what about recode? That was not in the two downloads you mentioned. Is there a way to try a different program without charge to see if it is Nero or my burner. Or put another way, is there a way to check the burner itself? I feel like I'm going in circles on this one. Please advise.........

you are still using wayyyyyyyyy too much memory! shut down all unnecessary programs running in the back ground! if you don't free up some memory it will hinder the writing process!
Since you are getting Write errors what media are you using. I suggest you use Taiyo Yuden disks or Verbatim! Either made in Japan disks or Verbatim! then try it again!

here is my 6.6.0.18 downloaded the same way you did form the same files...... you should have Nero Recode as shown..... if you don't then it's your serial # that is stopping the full download of the program!

Ihoe,
This last log was an attempt to simply copy a non-encrypted dvd to another. I was trying to test if it had anything to do with the recoding aspect. I have used readily available programs such as DVD Shrink, any dvd, dvd 4.3 free and DVD Decrypter many times with success. Media type is verbatim and tdk or memorex +R. Versions I was using, 6.6.1.15. Digital, 3.1.0.25 and Media player 1.4.0.35.
What about a different burning program that is reasonably priced? Is there a way to test the burner itself? If I knew for sure if it was a software issue vs. hardware it would be easier to deal with.
Your screenshot is the way mine looked with the above mentioned versions. I appreciate your guidance and expertise.

I am by no means an expert but after 3000+ burns I'm experienced. And stick with the Verbatims and get rid of the Memosux and TDKs..... those are like sub par disks, crappy media! And free up some memory!

Neither Memorex nor TDK is "sub par" or "crappy" in any technical way. Some people who have had compatibility problems with discs and drives will blame the discs. Compatibility issues are not quality issues. People are having problems with Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 16X media, not because TY has quality problems but because TY is late to market with 16X and their media have less support. The same thing will happen when/if TY introduces DL media.
If experience in recordings is significant, I have almost 30 times more experience than 3,000+ DVD discs.

thank you Joe for the clarifications.... I know you're way specific... please excuse my fumbling around ..... so I meant to say that TDK and Memosux are not very compatible to many burners! I hope that may be to your liking.

that's why I said, "I am by no means an expert but after 3000+ burns I'm experienced." I never said I was the MOST experienced.

JoeRyan,
I just have to ask this question seeing how I see you posting all over the forums about media. Do you work for Memorex or something? You are in the minority big time when it comes to this discussion of media issues just do a Google all over the internet and read a few of the sights devoted to just such areas as DVD media. My guess is you either work for Memorex or are just too stubborn to admit they may be inferior disks because you have used them with great success. It doesn't really matter how many movies you have backed up be it 1 or 30,000 common since and logic would tell any normal person that Memorex are not the best form of media out there. Now that being said I have had great success with Memorex also, but would I recommend them to anyone? Of course not in fact I have used just about every media out there and have done extensive testing on them all and Memorex disks just don't measure up and a lot of people?s problems have been fixed by switching to different media types. You always state that the media is not the problem, but the problem is compatibility with hardware. Well if that?s the case then Memorex is just not compatible with a lot of hardware out there and other brands are so to a common sense thinking person that would mean Memorex is not as good as other brands. Your only contribution here at AD from what I have seen is always contradicting someone else?s advice when it comes to media issues. So which is it, do you work for Memorex or are you just stubborn?
@jdog23,
A "Session fixation error" is almost always a media issue. So either try a different media (brand) and or update your firmware, but you already have the most up to date firmware for your drive so the best option I would suggest is to give another brand of disk a shot. There is one way to test this theory, try just burning the image to your hard drive and see if that works. If it does then try burning the disk with another program like ImgBurn (free). This may eliminate weather it is a software, hardware, or media issue. Another problem that this could possibly be is if you have a motherboard with the Nforce chipset, and you are using the Nvidia SW nForce IDE drivers, I would uninstall them. Go to add/remove programs, select Nvidia Drivers, select the IDE drivers only and remove them. In fact You should try that last option first if it is the case.
Something else I just noticed while re-reading your log Quote: Media type: DVD+R
This means your drive is not recognizing your media because it should be listing the Media Identification Code there instead of DVD+R.

Ihoe,
I've seen your advice to many users concerning drives and software, and I'd say you are an "expert" and very knowledgeable and helpful. It would be more correct to say that TDK and Memorex are less compatible and that Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are the most compatible brands for users rather than attribute incompatibility to poor quality. It is not possible to judge the recording quality of an incompatible disc except with very expensive equipment no consumer can afford.
bbmayo,
I am very stubborn and methodical. You mention logic. That means that before drawing a conclusion every other explanation must be ruled out. When a poster has a problem but does not mention his drive or firmware but does mention the MID code of a disc, the compatibility issue cannot be ruled out. Calling the discs he or she uses "crappy" or poor quality is illogical. This is a perfect example. You yourself saw that the drive did not recognize the disc. The problem was incompatibility, and using 16X Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden may not solve the problem at all either. Would that make them poor quality, too? 8X media might work. The NEC ND-2100 is an older drive that predates dual format drives, and that is the major difficulty for jdog23. His best chance these days is finding 4X DVD+RW media at retail or search for 8X DVD+R media because retail stores have moved to 16X almost entirely.
I have never recommended any brand at all. I have defended CMC, HP, Fuji, Imation, Maxell, Memorex, Philips, Ritek, Prodisc, TDK, and Sony from what appeared to me to be illogical accusations when there was not enough evidence to draw any conclusions about quality. In at least five cases the problem with a particular disc was definitely lack of firmware support because the poster mentioned a drive model and a firmware version that was known to be incompatible. I have even defended Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD+R media from being evidence that the factory had slipped.
This stubbornness comes from years when I was actually in the media business manufacturing magnetic tape. There was a widely believed story that chromium dioxide pigment wore audio or video heads prematurely. Everyone "knew" this, but almost no one could explain the JVC spec, the strata in ferrite heads, the integrity of the read/write gaps, or any of the scientific data and actual experience (A video head that lasts 7,000 hours on virgin chrome tape cannot wear faster than a head that has to be burnished three times to squeeze 6,500 hours out of it because it saw only virgin ferric-cobalt tape!) that disproved this rumor.
I don't care whose discs are recommended. I don't care who uses what discs as long at the users are satisfied. But I do stubbornly object to name calling when there is no real evidence (anecdotal reports still require details to be relevant) to support the conclusion drawn. This particular case is a perfect example of what I have been preaching (...and I apologize to everyone for sounding "preachy.") I'm glad you took the time to dig into the details and find the clue to the problem.

To all who are helping: I can sucessfully recode a dvd to the hard drive. That's how I have always had to do it anyway. It's getting it to the d--- dvd that's got me flustered. And btw, both of the dvd spindles I have are 16X. Am I correct in hearing you that if I can find 8X that may be the answer? If it is, where do you find them? I just always looked for +R's and a reputable name, or so I thought. Just for grins, I went to my collection and gess whattt?
THEY'RE 8X!!!! I will report back to you all as soon as I can get some and try it. My best to all that are trying to help.

Thanx to all that helped. Sorry it took so long to get a resolution but as it turns out it was the burner that was bad. I tried a used burner from a coworker and it worked. Went and bought a new burner, (Sony DRU-840A)not big bucks but works like a charm!
Thank you again!
