Here's a game image at 1600x1200.
http://www.frontlinesgame.com/imgs/Frontlines_RS_1600x1200.jpg
Here's that image at 800x600, but expanded out to fit a 1600x1200 screen.

Yes, but that's just because its been expanded correct? For example, if I play a quicktime movie and incease the size to full screen, the movie is all blocky, but if I make it as small as possible, it appears to be in good quality. So, since I have a 19" HD monitor, I cant tell the difference between 800x600 and 1200x1600. Maybe this is why you need a 8800 to play crysis real well. I mean, I can play it fine with the gecube, but I think they mean at max resolution when they say "max settings"

Btw, here are the other 2 videos:

Unless you use Anti-Aliasing, the same effect will apply in the game. I can tell the difference between 1600x1200 and 800x600 easily on a 19" monitor, I can tell the difference between 1024x768 and 800x600 on a 15" monitor. To me, that resolution looks hideous.

Hmm, so I guess I will need an upgrade to play. Maybe 2 8800GT in sli, or wait for ATI with their cards (november)

Bah SLI, and in an ATI thread too!
The fact that I'm about to replace an SLI board with a single PCI express one that isn't even an nvidia chipset should tell you where I stand!

Holy hell, is this still going. XD
What did I do. :P

Anywayz, anyone tried the Crysis Demo?
And also anyone with an AGP X1950XT, how's it running?

It's pretty much crap here, however a bit playable, I love it.
But I have a P4 (3GHz), DDR SDRAM (1.5GB), 6800XT (128MB), so go figure...
I'm thinking about trying to get a separate PC just for gaming, like a "console", so it's not bothered by other stuff.
I can only spend a couple of hundreds, but at least so it uses newer technologies.
Like obviously PCIe, a C2D or C2Q, DDR2, some form of an 8800...

So, could anyone tell if it's possible to get that for not too much?
It's really a bitch that it usually costs so much. >:(
Or should I skip C2D and also wait until DDR3 gets more common and such?
Or what can I do best at this moment?...

Well, I don't feel like pumping any more money into this computer anymore, all that money for only a bit of improvement.
It's just a waste...

If I'd buy a new computer, I would sure need a good motherboard for the long run, what kind of motherboard would that be?

Get:
A Core 2 Duo (one of the better overclocking ones like a 4300 or 6750) and get a GA-P35-DS3 board to overclock the hell out of it with. (Just make sure you get a good cooler). RAM's dirt cheap now, so that doesn't matter much. Get the 8800GT Graphics card as it's nice and cheap.
Following all this you could build a powerful gaming PC for perhaps $700.

Well since I wont be upgrading till around christmas time, I can still wait and see what ATi has to offer with their new lineup of cards. Maybe I will go with ATi, but if they dont get a new card out that's better than a GT or on par with a GTX than I am going to stay with the GT. I mean, for $260, its better than a GTS which costs around $320, and it's smaller too.

I hear that Ati is releasing a HD 3 series lineup, something that will be better than a GTX, and they'll be out in november.

New Ati Cards: http://www.tomshardware.com/cn/119,news-119.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/cn/123,news-123.html

Also, maybe a 8950GX2 is coming out in november: http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=11813

EDIT: Dinc, I made 3 videos of me running the demo on highest settings at 800x600 here: http://youtube.com/user/Waymon3x6

That would be a nice price in Euros.
But does that include Power Supply, Hard Drive, Case (can be cheap), DVD-RW (also though), and a monitor?
Also some other things I believe... an audio-card...
But I saw the XFi Gamer for like 75 Euros, so... I don't know if it's any good anyways?

That's the worst thing, you have to add stuff to make everything work and useable. *frustration*

Byt the way, wouldn't overclocking make it risky though?
I'm not planning on buying much else soon after that. XD

In euros it's maybe 600, but doesn't include a monitor.

As for the HD3800, I won't hold my breath, I'd say Q1 08 at the very earliest, likewise with the 8950.

It's about ?485,- actually. :)
But I couldn't find much actually by browsing TigerDirect.
Which is pretty much the only cheap(er) store I can find that also ships to The Netherlands.
But ehm... yah, the first quick part sum-up I got like ?900-1000 at least.

It's also so annoying that there keep coming out newer things so quickly.
I mean, when I'm looking for everything at the same time, some parts might get cheaper the next time there's new stuff coming out, which might be right after I bought it.
Situations like that...

Edit:
No wait, I said it wrong, that was more like the Dutch stores.
I found for about ?700, it's a bit high seeing my budget...

I know what the exchange rate is, but nonetheless you won't find components for that cheap in europe, we have to pay more than the US after considering the exchange rate because of imports and taxes.
As for the continuous struggle to keep up, you'll have to live with it I'm afraid, I don't like it any more than you do.

But if we buy from TigerDirect.com we don't have to pay more than they charge you right?
I didn't have that with other foreign stores anyways.

There's no tigerdirect in the UK, only its UK partner Misco, but since all companies are bound by the legislation of paying/charing VAT and heavy import taxes, we pay more. The currency exchange rate between the UK and the US is about 2.05. However, the electrical component exchange rate is only about 1.4, since we have to pay 45-50% tax on imported goods (albeit not directly).

Because it's a pointless benchmark. At that resolution, Flight Sim X is entirely CPU dependant, and for that game in particular nvidia drivers have less of an impact on the CPU. Choose a proper resolution and you'll notice the difference. Granted, it's not much of a difference, but there is one. Suffice to say you want an nvidia card to play flight sim X.

Doesn't the 8800 series use the same drivers? How come they perform lower?

Not necessarily, similar but they probably have more in them given how advanced the 8800 series is. More to slow the CPU down.

Yeah, but I wouldn't say 256MB is enough for the newest games anymore.
It seems to me like 512MB is the new lowest standard, for a while already actually.
Especially for all the HD-gaming and everything.

Indeed, 512MB can't do quake 4 on ultra, and that's not exactly a new game any more...

Well hey im here to join the queue for problems regarding this wonderful card.. after reading the first 21 pages... now im bored xD

so... what have i dones so far, first thing is i've set it to the recommended overclock 675/702, due to PC shutting itself down i've then replaced my 550w with a 700w dual 12v rail PSU, must say its shut itself down less a few times today.

Temperature, i've attempted the tape mod using packaging tape.. (cheap..) just to pressurize it, so far temps have been idling at 49-50. but to be honest i dont think the backplate temps for me get hot at all since i've got a Scythe CPU fan blowing out directly at it, my CPU doesnt need it since its got a huge chunk of metal sitting on it.

little pic of what it looks like (ignore the vampire panda :P):

after running fur cube from ATI tool, temperatures managed to hit 76 within 10mins of spinning, not too happy on that.

But whatever, next i've been playing with 3D Mark 06, happily got a 5011 score just a few minutes ago, only thing that seemed to disappoint was the CPU only gaining something like 977 points.

So honestly any recommendations to cool this monster? i've been really thinking of buying a Zalman cooler to replace it also the recommened AC5, but before i do any of that i kind of would like some feedback before splashing out on more useless parts.

AMD 64 3700+, 2gb DDR 400, Gecube X1950XT TEC (AKA: Hot stuff..:/)
