Hey, my Zalmand HSF has lights! Its this one: http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-7000b-cu-led-cpu-cooler.html
I bought that HSF even before I ever thought about overclocking my 3.2GHz P4. Now, with it at 3.75, I get a load at around 145F-150F. Pretty hot I must say. Oh well, the processor seems to be doing fine. I'll be getting a quad core and water cooling soon, so I dont have to worry!

hehe, my Server has that cooler (the 7000B) but without the LEDs. It's not really that wonderful though. At full speed the fan is irritating, it doesn't cool hugely well and it gathers dust in no time, which is then impossible to clean.

I wish I had known that when I bought it a year and a half ago... I dont mind the sound of it though. All the other fans cover it up, and usually I just forget about how noisy it is when I'm gaming.

It's funny, that's how long I've had mine for. I wanted the Freezer 64 Pro, but I couldn't find it anywhere at the time. It would have been a much better decision...

hm.. something strange, on some rather demanding games, my PC randomly reboots or shuts itself down still even when the temps dont go abouve 70... o_o;;;
im pretty much at the stage where im getting pretty pissed off with it >_>; already wasted money on a new 700w psu dual 12v rails, 2 new coolers (the scythe and the zalman 900) and some AC5 gooey stuff..
so... anyone got answers? >_>;

What's your case ventilation like? You say the CPU and GPU aren't overheating, but what about the RAM?

im not really fond of the COD series.. having to reload my gun every 2 secs isnt that appealing to me >_>; then again its probs my noob point of view, mmm... well the only 2 fps games im enjoying on lan atm is HL2 Deathmatch which came free when purchasing a Radeon, and UT2004, which i play on LAN with my housemates.

COD4 runs fine at 1920x1200 Max. Didn't try 2560x1600, I was in multiplayer so I couldn't really afford to drop frames.
As for Crysis, well. For the beginning section, I ran a few tests, as did my friend who has an 8800GTX with Vista. Just so you know, he also has an Antec 900 :)
My PC (X1900XT, 3.15Ghz E4300, 2GB RAM)
2560x1600 High: 5fps
2560x1600 Medium (but Volumetric lighting and shadows set to low): 22-40fps
2560x1600 Medium (but volumetric lighting and shadows set to low): AA 4x enabled: 1fps (not a typo)
1680x1050 High: 16fps
1680x1050 Medium: 22fps
1440x900 Medium: c. 30fps
1280x800 High: c. 30fps
GoldenCrater's PC (2.4Ghz E6600, 8800GTX, 2GB, Vista)
2560x1600 Very High: 4fps
2560x1600 Very High 4x AA: Crash (AA not supported with DX10)
2560x1600 Medium: c. 20fps
Now if this is what the beginning of the game is like, I dread to think how low performance may drop at a busy section.

Sam I'm guessing I should be getting lower performance than you even though I have a more powerful card. I guess it's the RAM coupled with the better motherboard.

Well, I wouldn't say your graphics card is much faster, I'd say they're pretty similar.

So that's 3dmark. In prey it's almost the same, in Battlefield 2142 it is the same, In doom 3 it's almost the same, in Oblivion it gets raped, and in the overall scale of things with 3dmark it's also quite similar. In the SM3 test, Mark of Chaos and Dark messiah it's somewhat better, but it's not streets ahead. An X1950XT-X would shaft it almost every time. In any case, as you say, you need more RAM.

Lol hey well, the facts had to be put right. I wasn't going to accept any old rubbish about you suddenly having a faster PC than me!
Think about it logically, the 7900 range was made to compete with the X1900 range, so the 7900GTX was the direct competitor to the X1900XT-X. Since I have the X1900XT, I'm expected to have a couple of % reduced performance, but in any case, I can beat the stock XT-X by quite some distance if I overclock using ATITool. The X1950XT-X was ATI's last ditch effort on the R580 platform, to try and gain some market after nvidia's showstopping performer the 7950GX2, by making their fastest card crossfire compatible. Unfortunately, the fact that even Quad-SLI had a higher chance of doing what it said on the tin than Crossfire, the dual-graphics argument from ATi was left behind, and all they had was a fast card to stave off the 7950GT with, which they did. Then the 8800s came out and, well you know the rest.

Bah, bring it. Through clever adjustments of the detail settings, I can play Crysis at 2560x1600, with high quality textures I might add.

heres some tweaks I found on my other forum that allows you to have DX10 effects happen in DX9 without sacrificing your fps. In other words, you can enable "Very High Settings" in the Crysis Demo, even if you dont have a 8800 series card and Vista.
Heres the guide.
http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=12065
The sun flares look great, especially viewing through you gun.
-------------------------
BTW, I found it really weird when I was playing the Demo on all high (with those tweaks) and was getting around 25fps in 800x600. Then I made the game run in half screen and the fps were increased by about 10! Why did this happen??
Edit: Heres some pics I wanted to post. The first is with DX9 w/ tweaks to make the game appear to be "very high settings" dx10, the second is without tweaks on Vista "Very High Settings".

The texture quality does seem higher, and the water effects are far better. What's interesting is that because that's still DX9, using that mod you can get a better picture than with Vista, because DX10 doesn't support AA.

The only thing you have on me is the motherboard and that RAM. Soon very soon... I wont get a new motherboard, but 3GBs of PC-8000 RAM might change some things!

To be honest. At 3.5Ghz I'd be very surprised if you don't beat me. But I'd also be very surprised if you get leagues ahead.
