Can anyone help me out here. Im looking for a good, 512mb pci express video card preferably with an ATI chipset that is reasonably priced. Can you throw some ideas out here. Thanks!

the x1950xt, it's a 256 card but it outperforms the 7950gt 512 from nvidia and is only outperformed by the x1950xtx or the 7950gtx. it costs about 180 dollars. if not go for the 8800gts 320mb for about 280 dollars.

How about a ATi 2900XT? It's DX10 compatable and it is cheaper than a 8800gtx. (A little slower too.)

sweet. they finally came out with the 1gb version. Let's see how that compares performance wise to the 8800gtx. Hopefully it won't disappoint like the 512mb version.

Extra memory isn't going to see the 2900XT perform that much better. It's only around as fast as the 8800GTS, and there isn't a vast difference between 320MB and 640MB for that, so 512MB and 1GB should be almost unnoticeable.

Well, not many people usually do. We're on about performance. The 7950GT is pretty fast, and unless you have a big monitor, plenty fast enough. It bugs me when I see people with 17" monitors use 8800GTXs, all that power being wasted...

That's not strictly true, the more complex textures you use (typically this is what happens when you up the detail level), the more memory they take up, so this affects the level of detail more than the resolution. The core speed is also critical with resolutions, the faster clocked models can convert more of the textures into a display, so the high resolutions run better.
