Trying to make a copy on a dual layer, it starts out on "creating the image for burning" and that takes way longer than it used to before i reinstalled windows mce. I should also mention I switched my laptop hardrive from a 4200rpm to a 7200rpm.. DMA is enabled. I'm also using AnyDVD for decryption. It must be something to do with the reading drive or some setting that is limiting it. Is there any way to copy a disc without making a temp file? heres my log:

Any Ideas?...It definately has something to do with the reading speed.

I think you're right. From looking at the time stamps it appears you are ripping @ 3.42 megs/sec or roughly 2.4x.

I know in recode there is a radio button you can check & uncheck for "advanced analysis". Is this an option in Disk Copy(Your log doesn't mention it and I'm not at a 'puter with a DVD burner at the moment)? If so, deselect it. This would definitely increase the read speed.

I will do some more research when I get in front of a 'puter with a burner.

I tried using the external burner as the reading drive, it's reading at a faster speed and has helped a little but thats still not as fast as before. I think it never used to make a temp file on the hard drive at all. I don't remember the movie ever being auto-ejected from the reading drive like it does now after this "creating image" happens... as if it never really happened before. I read about the 'On the fly' option and i guess it sounds like I used to have something like that going on.

Nero is telling me my internal drive will only read at 4x... thats definately wrong. It should atleast be 8x. Driver/Firmware version problem maybe?? I've tried looking for updates for it, with no results.

You have the most current firmware for your drive.

I didn't find anything in Nero that you can select or deselect to improve performance. The only other thing I can think of is the DMA setting on your drives. Your OS will drop the DMA setting if it starts to encounter read errors.

Do you know how to see wht the DMA setting is? Here's a guide on how to check and reset the DMA on your system.

Other than that, I'm stumped. Check your DMA via the guide and let us know what you find. If that doesn't do it, I'll see if I can attract some of the addicts.

I have tried un/reinstalling the IDE Controller and channels. Even tried changing around the drivers for them and got same slow speed or got a "device cannot start properly" error.

heres some screens of what I see with normal windows install:

It appears to me that your DMA is set properly.

I checked a Recode log of mine where I recoded a DL disk I had already ripped to my HD (I rip to my hd, then burn. Saves me some disks). From the time stamps, it took recode 54 minutes to re-analyse & burn the dl disk. It took 19 minutes to compile the files from my harddrive prior to burning. It took your system 36 minutes to read & compile from your drive. It seems like a big difference but hard drive through-put is faster than dvd drive.

One thing I didn't ask before, when you re-loaded windows mce, did you reload the same version of Nero you had before?

(BTW, When I do dls, I generally burn with ImgBurn because you can control the burning speed better than Nero)
