Hello.

Are there any free apps, similar to AnyDVD?

I have got myself a copy of DVD43, which is freeware, but it seems not to have been updated since 2006.

I'm sure it will do just fine, but is there any freeware out there, that does the job and has regular updates?

Thanks.

You might want to try DVDFab HD Decrypter

That's not really it.

I am looking for freeware alternatives to AnyDVD.

DVD43 is one.

That said, from that link, I found "Free DVD" and that seems to be a bit like what I am looking for - but will need testing out.

DVD43 is junk, thats why its free

anydvd is the best but you pay

DVD Region+CSS Free is good but you pay

DVDFab Decrypter is very good also and its freeware

thats basically your choices

DVDFab HD Decrypter is free, has regular updates, and is the same difference to AnyDVD

Great info, but I am looking for something like AnyDVD.

What I mean is an application that sits in the background and just does its thing, rather than an active tool.

The reason I mentioned DVD43 was because, whatever one feels about it, it is just such a tool.

Personally, I use AnyDVD, but am curious.

As AnyDVD works so well, I have been using Decrypter and Shrink for as long as I can remember and had no reason to check DVDFab. I quite like the look of it and have just picked up a copy of DVDFab Platinum, to have a play around with.

FreeDVD will be a nice extra, too.

Ok. AnyDVD for cash or DVD43 for free. I guess that's it.

It will be the end when there are no more contributions and it has been but a few hours since it was started. I hope there are some more but, if there are not, it won't be a big deal.

like MichaelP1 said there isn't any others that compare to anydvd(that are good except dvd region + css free), and DVD43 is crap, so if you don't wont to buy AnyDVD or any other program, then you have to do it with free programs like the ones mentioned above, probably the easiest is DVDFab HD then shrink then IMGburn, there, all free programs that are great.

It's not a question of want but of interest.

What I am not interested in is an active tool, shrink / decrypter style.

What I mean is an application that sits in the background and just does its thing, rather than an active tool.

The above comments were read, thanks.

If you learn of a new tool, that would be great.

Well the freeware ones are ok but paying is much better. Correct? I just want to see which is the best application and do you need more than one program to be able to burn DVD's? I'm a little behind on this technology.. LOl

You'll want to start your own thread then, rather than jump in another one, most likely in the new category. More folk will then notice what you have to say. Start just with looking into copying software and then worry about protection software later, when you run into something that the copy software cannot deal with.

AnyDVD is the way to go. I still use Shrink and Decrypter, but CloneDVD can be a nice backup.

A lot of folks like to use DVDFab Decrypter, and other new things, but I reckon that my process ain't broke and so I'm not "gonna" fix it.

DVD Decrypter to rip files to HD. DVD Shrink to crunch them down or re-author them. AnyDVD is sometimes run as back up.

There are some slide-show tutorials: HERE

From that page:

- Ripping a DVD with "DVD Decrypter": HERE
- (Shrink) "Full-Disk" basic guide: HERE
- DVD Shrink v3.1: "Re-author" basic guide: HERE

To get maximum quality, you want minimum shrinkage. That means following the re-authoring guide, taking out the main movie only and stripping off the subtitle and audio tracks you don't need. Usually, if it's a Hollywood film in English, you would take off all the subtitles and leave only the 5.1 English sound.

The software can be found:

DVD Decrypter: HERE
Download DVD Shrink: HERE

Make another thread for this topic, though, as more folk will see it.

Otherwise, feel free to send me a PM directly.
