Hi,
ok, I have a DVD, really badly scratched, circumfrential scratches, not radial (ie follows the track).
I'v tried Smartripper, DVD Decryptor, DVDShrink and AnyDVD, only managed to get 1/3 of the dvd to the HD.
Anything else I could try?

thanks

In DVDDecypter, you can go to the I/O section under "settings" and select "ignore read errors" -> this could solve your problem.

Good luck...

If you still get problems try the newer version of DVD Decrypter.

guys, the dvd is damaged, the files can't be ripped as is from the DVD's, i had heard of 'rescue' programs and was wondering if these would work.
I got the updated DVDDecryptor and will try that 2nite, crossing fingers now...

Can't get files to the harddrive, thats the problem...

It is a nice thought, but I imagine the scratched parts will be on the files needed (why? because life is just like that!)

I have found that once you rip a DVD, even if you ignore errors, it will be impossible to compress with something like DVD2One, or DVD95COPY etc.

The only solution I have found (and it is cumbersome) is to rip, allowing the errors to be ignored, use fast error skip, Ithink it is called (bear in mind you will need to set number of trys to something sensible, like 1, otherwise a rip could last years, literally!)

Then use something like TMPGEnc to reencode the messy mpg/vob files. Then re-author the files, or compress using DVD2One or something like that. This takes forever and you might as well buy a new DVD :-)

Not worth it in my opinion and you will still get a glitch on the errors, because they are not repaired, just ignored !

I'm back...
...can't you smell the fear?

its the vob's that are damaged...

I have vob's 1, 2 and 3, but the other 6 are giving problems.

i've never used TMPGEnc, but if i can get the files from the DVD i'll give it a shot.

and for some reason my Burner (sony dru500ax) doesn't recognise the dvd, i'm using the old toshiba to rip from.

Its certainly a duff DVD. There is no way of ripping/coping these DVD's. Best just to throw it away or get a refund!

After 16 hrs have only 50% of .VOB no.4, have decided to give up, DVD is completly 'duff'
.VOB 4 and 5 are too damaged, managed to get the rest, but they're no good without the middle ones, checked the 50% of .VOB 4 and it's entirely pixlated at the end.

a pity, now it looks like i'll have to go and get a new one

Yet another good reason for backing up our valuable collections.

(Sorry to seem to be a bit sarcastic, I don't mean to be).

Give me time......

I do need to "get more serious" but I've just returned from my "summer holiday" & suffering serious "holiday depression".

Returning home from 24C to 4C to a serious shock to the system. LOL

Sorry, can't say just yet (it's part of a game on another part of the board) but, we go there every year, so it's like a regular home from home.

However, we flew from Luton just for a change, rather than Gatwick. All went well, until we returned, and the luggage took 45 minutes to arrive (including 5 minutes when the belt stopped working altogether).

It reminded me of the time I flew back from Belfast to Heathrow, and the luggage took longer to arrive than the flight itself. Aghhhh.... happy days.....

Hope you don't "break a leg".....

lol - yeah - that is a strange belfast saying - 'Break a leg'. Never wuite understood it myself :-D

Did you chose not to go through Heathrow because of the concorde and the related traffic problems?? My dad has just flown on concored a few days ago from New York. He loved it. He was sitting across the aisle from 50 cents and 4 massive body guards :-D

I used DVD X Rescue by 321 Studios (retail) and it saved my bacon a day or so ago. Had the same problem with my 2 Fast 2 Furious DVD (also posted a day or so ago). Worked like a charm.

~ You sure you wanna do dat? ~

Did you try using something like the Disk Doctor. If the CD is physically scratched I don't think any software in the world is going to be able to physically repair it. I would assume your only hope is one of the resurfacing kits they sell for CD's/DVD's, such as the Disk Dr. it removes or reduces the scratches and scuffs on basically any type of optical media. Bear in mind that if the scratch is particularly deep the disk my need to be resurfaced several times before it works.
