hey there aD members?
I am having some issues as of lately with my Intel e6700 dual core processor(most likely windows). every few minutes I will get a spike of about 18% on one core. This affects movie watching and gaming and I have no clue why.
I have tested this in safe mode and I get no spike, I uninstalled all known apps that might be causing this in regular windows but this did not solve the problem.
any help would be great without reformating.

Observe the task list very carefully, is there any program that you can spot causing the spike?

the only thing that I notice that changes is explorer.exe, other than that system idle process will stay at or around 99/98 unless I do somthing to not make it idle.

What programs do you normally have open in windows?
(i.e. what processes are running when you don't have any windows open - Antivirus, Office tray icons, things like that)

The only thing running at startup is my antivirus and windowblinds which I have been running for well over a year.
I have total of 30 process running. I have done defragmenting, virus scanns ran ccleaner to get rid of all history and invalid regkeys deleted all folders that may have caused old input.
Thanks for your responce.

Although you have used it for over a year, Windowblinds has bugged my PC to the point of reformatting on two occasions. Is it your first dual core? Perhaps try uninstalling windowblinds and see if that changes anything?

Not my first dual core but my first issue with one core spiking. I have unloaded window blinds and viewed the process and still spikes....correction...I have only unloaded windowblinds in windows and not on startup. but I will do so.
Ok, as I was writing this I uninstalled windowblinds/rebooted and it still spikes.
I will try a few more things.
Any other suggestions will be great.

I never heard of or even read that a pci wireless adapter causing a spike.
Anyways I reinstalled the driver from linksys website instead of the cd it came with and I have had no spikes since.
Im not getting the 270mb transfer rate that I was once getting but instead im getting around 120mb. I would rather get the 120mb then the damn spike.
Thanks guys for comments.
