Well, I haven't had any problems like this until now. The DVD appears to skip or pause on it's own--but if I then rewind it from where it hung it plays through without a hitch. I'm using Ripit4me->DVDremakePro->DVDrebuilderPro->Nero burning Rom with Verbatim DVD-R. Does this problem sound like a bad disk, or an encoding issue? (Do I need to start from scratch, or can I just copy this disk to a fresh one?)

This is the fists ever I have had to rewind, and I always use Verbatim(burned at 4X.) Also, as far as firmware goes, I haven't been able to find anything for a SonyDVD-RW-DRU-710A. I look at Sony's website a while back and Don't remember even being able to find the make and model.
if your using Verbatim 16x speed media and your burning at 4x without updated firmware that may be your problem. try finding 8x speed and see if that works

They are 4x Verbatims so burning them at 4x shouldn't be the issue. I'm a bit nervous about messing with the firmware from the link as it involves flashing my drives and what not.
